Metropolitan Round 2 (Second Stage): Capitol is defeated by Larranaga in a derby game

There were only 2 rounds played so far and it's still very beginning of the Second Stage in Metropolitan. Here is the last round review presented by Job Market.

The most interesting game was a derby match between two local teams from Montevideo: Larranaga and Capitol. Capitol was defeated at home 65-75 and even the fact of playing on their own court did not help. Larranaga outrebounded Capitol 50-34 including a 37-26 advantage in defensive rebounds. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 21 assists. Naturalized Italian Nicolas Borsellino (202-1986, agency: Pro Sports) had a double-double by scoring 16 points and 15 rebounds to lead the charge for the winners and American forward DJ Foreman (203-1994, college: St.Louis) chipped in 19 points and 8 rebounds during the contest. Larranaga's coach Nicolas Diaz used a ten-player rotation which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. point guard Claudio Bascou (185-1989) responded with 23 points. Larranaga's supporters look forward to another derby game next round, where their team will face at home their local rival from Montevideo Urunday.
Another interesting game was again a derby between two teams from Montevideo: Urunday and Welcome. Urunday smashed visiting Welcome by 30 points 99-69. It ended at the same time the five-game winning streak of Welcome. American Tyrone Lee (203-1990, college: GVSU) notched 22 points, 8 rebounds and 4 blocks (on 10-of-12 shooting from the field) to lead the effort and Demian Alvarez supported him with 23 points. Even 16 points and 4 assists by point guard Santiago Wohlwend (172-1997) did not help to save the game for Welcome. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Very important is a home loss of Olimpia against Tabare on Monday night. Host Olimpia was defeated by Tabare in a tough game in Montevideo 75-83. The best player for the winners was Octavio Medina who had a double-double by scoring 24 points and 12 rebounds. Ricardo Glenn produced a double-double by scoring 16 points and 11 rebounds for the hosts. Tabare will meet at home Sayago in the next round. There were no shocking results in the other games in round 2: Atenas lost to Sayago on the opponent's court 80-97. Stockolmo managed to outperform U.Atletica in a home game 78-60. Colon managed to beat O.Mundial on the road 87-71. Bottom-ranked Miramar defeated Lagomar on its own court 68-58. 25 de Agosto smashed Verdirrojo in Montevideo 92-60.
The most impressive stats of the last round was 24 points, 12 rebounds, 4 assists and 5 steals by Tirrell Brown of 25 de Agosto.

Capitol - Larranaga 65-75

The best player for the winners was forward Octavio Medina (195-1996) who had a double-double by scoring 24 points and 12 rebounds. American Anthony Danridge (196-1986, college: N.Mexico) chipped in 20 points, 7 rebounds and 4 assists. American center Ricardo Glenn (203-1990, college: USC Upstate, agency: Interperformances) produced a double-double by scoring 16 points and 11 rebounds and his fellow American import forward Al Thornton (203-1983, college: FSU, agency: BIG) added 24 points, 5 rebounds and 4 blocks respectively for the hosts. The game between closely ranked teams ended with Atenas' road loss to Sayago 80-97 on Monday. Sayago made 24-of-26 free shots (92.3 percent) during the game. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 22 assists. Great defensive blocking was one of the keys in this match when Sayago made 9 blocks. The best player for the winners was American Rakim Brown (198-1991, college: Humboldt St.) who had a double-double by scoring 23 points, 10 rebounds, 4 assists and 6 steals (was perfect 11-for-11 from the free throw line !!!). The other American import forward King Revolution (206-1990, college: Southern, agency: BIG) chipped in 29 points and 5 rebounds. Sayago's coach German Fernandez allowed to play the deep bench players saving starting five for next games. Venezuelan power forward Francisco Centeno (203-1985) produced a double-double by scoring 20 points, 19 rebounds and 4 assists and forward Joaquin Rodriguez (199-2003) added 17 points, 6 rebounds and 5 assists respectively for the guests. Another interesting game was again a derby between two teams from Montevideo: Urunday and Welcome. Urunday smashed visiting Welcome by 30 points 99-69. It ended at the same time the five-game winning streak of Welcome. Urunday made 25-of-32 charity shots (78.1 percent) during the game. They also forced 19 Welcome turnovers. Their players were unselfish on offense dishing 22 assists. Welcome was plagued by 27 personal fouls down the stretch. American Tyrone Lee (203-1990, college: GVSU) notched 22 points, 8 rebounds and 4 blocks (on 10-of-12 shooting from the field) to lead the effort and forward Demian Alvarez (193-1984, agency: Pro Sports) supported him with 23 points. Five Urunday players scored in double figures. Even 16 points and 4 assists by point guard Santiago Wohlwend (172-1997) did not help to save the game for Welcome. Guard Facundo Terra (185-1998) chipped in 19 points, 7 rebounds and 8 assists. Stockolmo's coach Andres Borroni used entire bench and allowed the starting five to rest. American center Deion McClenton (208, college: Keiser) produced a double-double by scoring 14 points and 20 rebounds and his fellow American import forward Miles Bowman Jr (198-1993, college: High Point) added 10 points and 8 rebounds respectively for the guests. Point guard Andres Aristimuno (184-1992) chipped in 16 points, 6 rebounds and 6 assists. Four Colon players scored in double figures. Panamanian-American point guard Trevor Gaskins (188-1989, college: Louisiana Tech, agency: Pro Sports) produced 22 points and 8 rebounds and Brazilian center Pedro Ianguas (210-1998) added 9 points and 15 rebounds respectively for the hosts. Forward Federico Haller (200-1988) produced a double-double by scoring 16 points and 14 rebounds and point guard Pierino Rusch (183-1999) added 10 points and 4 assists respectively for the guests. Both coaches used bench players and allowed the starting five to rest. Miramar will meet Colon on the road in the next round and they do not belong to the favorites in that game.
