Malik Curry
24-year old American guard Malik Curry (184-G-1999) put on an extraordinary performance in the last round for Defensor Sporting Club Montevideo and receives a Hoops Agents Player of the Week award for round 23. He had the game-high 26 points adding three rebounds and five assists for Defensor in his team's victory, helping them to edge out Cordon (#8, 8-12) 76-74. Defensor maintains the 4th position in Uruguayan league. They would have been even better if they hadn't lost a few games earlier this season. Defensor will need more victories to improve their 13-7 record. Curry turned to be Defensor's top player in his first season with the team. West Virginia University graduate has very impressive stats this year. Curry is league's best scorer averaging so far 22.7ppg. Curry is in league's top in assists (6th best: 5.0apg).
Second best performed player last round was Luciano Parodi (182-PG-1994) of Hebraica Macabi Montevideo. He is naturalized Italian guard in his second season at Hebraica. In the last game Parodi recorded an impressive 22 points, 7 rebounds and 9 assists. It was enough for Hebraica to edge slightly lower-ranked Malvin (#7, 9-12) by 6 points 90-84. Hebraica's 5th position in the standings has not changed. His team lost some distance to top teams. But a 12-8 record is not bad and everything may still change. Parodi is well-known at Hebraica and he already established his position as one of the team's leaders.
Third place about best performers goes to forward Miguel Simon (203-F-1994, agency: BMS Sport Agency) of Urupan de Pando (#9). Simon scored 21 points and grabbed 11 rebounds (!!!). He was a key player of Urupan, leading his team to a 80-74 win against slightly lower-ranked Goes (#11, 5-15). The chances of Urupan not to end season at such low position in the league, however are less than slim as they have already lost 13 games, recording just six victories. With bigger assistance of his teammates, Simon could try to bring Urupan's a little bit higher in the standings. Simon has a very solid season. In 5 games in Uruguay he scored 16.2ppg.
Other top performing players last week: 4. Franklin Hassell (205-C-1988) of Hebraica - 14 points, 11 rebounds and 3 assists 5. Mustapha Heron (196-G-1997) of Goes - 29 points and 3 rebounds 6.
