Metropolitan Round 9 (Regular Season): Montevideo defeats Bohemios in the closest game of the week

There are only two more rounds left in the Regular Season in Metropolitan. Here is the last round review presented by Job Market.

The most exciting game of round 9 in the Metropolitan took place in Montevideo. This derby game ended with only two-point defeat on the road of 8th ranked Bohemios (4-5) to sixth ranked Montevideo (6-2) 100-98 on Saturday evening. Montevideo forced 21 Bohemios turnovers. Point guard Fernando Martinez (173-1979, agency: Pro Sports) stepped up and scored 32 points, 7 rebounds, 7 assists and 4 steals (went 9 for 9 at the free throw line !!!) for the winners and center Mauricio Arregui (200-1998) chipped in 22 points and 10 rebounds. Montevideo's coach Sergio Delgado used a ten-player rotation in such tough game. The best for the losing side was forward Agustin Da Costa (191-1998) with 24 points and 8 rebounds. Montevideo moved-up to second place, which they share with U.Atletica and Goes. Bohemios at the other side keep the eighth position with five games lost. Stockolmo at the other side dropped to the seventh position with four games lost. Capitol managed to escape with a 3-point win 65-62 on Friday evening. Host team only slightly avoided a big embarassment. The best player for the winners was Juan Galletto who scored 28 points and 6 rebounds. At the other side the best for losing team was Sergio Conceicao who recorded a double-double by scoring 23 points and 18 rebounds. Capitol have a solid series of four victories in a row. They moved-up to sixth place. Loser L.Borges keep the fourteenth position with seven games lost. Capitol's supporters look forward to an exciting derby game next round, where their team will travel locally in Montevideo to the arena Stockolmo.

There were no shocking results in the rest of the games of round 9: Lagomar won against Larranaga on the opponent's court 82-77. Bottom-ranked O.Mundial unfortunately lost to Olimpia in a home game 75-82. Verdirrojo was rolled over Colon on the road 58-77.



Goes - Stockolmo 64-61

Important game to mention about took place in Montevideo. Fourth ranked Goes (6-2) saved a 3-point derby victory at home edging 6th ranked Stockolmo (5-4) 64-61 on Thursday evening. There was a minor upset in Montevideo where 10th ranked Larranaga (3-6) was defeated by twelfth ranked Lagomar (3-5) 82-77 on Friday. Lagomar made 16-of-21 free shots (76.2 percent) during the game. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 21 assists. The best player for the winners was Cape Verdean Victor Andrade (202-2000) who scored 17 points and 7 rebounds. Point guard Andres Aristimuno (184-1992) chipped in 16 points and 4 assists. Lagomar's coach Alejandro Muro allowed to play the deep bench players in such tough game. At the other side the best for losing team was naturalized Argentinian power forward Agustin Zuvich (201-1995) who recorded a double-double by scoring 28 points and 14 rebounds and forward Nicolas Martinez (206-2003) added 17 points and 9 rebounds respectively. Four Larranaga players scored in double figures. Lagomar moved-up to tenth place, which they share with Tabare. Loser Larranaga dropped to the twelfth position with six games lost. Very predictable result in Montevideo where third ranked Olimpia (6-1) defeated bottom-ranked O.Mundial (1-7) 82-75 on Friday. Olimpia looked well-organized offensively handing out 21 assists. The best player for the winners was Sebastian Ottonello (200-1997) who had a double-double by scoring 21 points and 11 rebounds. Point guard Felipe Garcia (173-1999) chipped in 16 points, 7 rebounds and 9 assists. Four Olimpia players scored in double figures. Olimpia's coach Nicolas Altalef allowed to play the deep bench players saving starting five for next games. At the other side the best for losing team was Facundo Medina (190-1994) who recorded 21 points and 8 rebounds and forward Santiago Massa (190-1997) added 19 points respectively. Olimpia have an impressive series of six victories in a row. They keep a position of league leader. O.Mundial lost fifth consecutive game. They stay at the bottom place with seven games lost. Olimpia will meet at home Colon (#5) in the next round. O.Mundial will play against Tabare (#11) and hope to win that game.

Not a big story in a game when 9th ranked Verdirrojo (3-4) was rolled over on the road by sixth ranked Colon (6-3) 77-58 on Saturday. Colon forced 19 Verdirrojo turnovers. The best player for the winners was center Theo Metzger (200-1999) who scored 16 points and 9 rebounds. Forward Gianfranco Espindola (196-1999) chipped in 13 points and 6 rebounds. At the other side the best for losing team was American forward Randy Rickards (201-2000, college: WILMU) who recorded a double-double by scoring 12 points and 17 rebounds and the other American import guard Taalib Holloman (193, college: WILMU) added 9 points respectively. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Colon moved-up to fifth place. Loser Verdirrojo keeps the ninth position with four games lost. Colon will meet league's leader Olimpia in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Verdirrojo will play against Sayago (#13) and hope to secure a win.
