Liga Femenina Round 9 (Second Stage): Juventud beat Urunday by two after a very close game

Here is the last round review presented by LBM Management.

The most exciting game of round 9 in the Liga Femenina took place in Montevideo. This derby game ended with only two-point home defeat of 7th ranked Urunday (7-8) to eighth ranked Juventud (7-8) 61-59 in the game for the seventh place. It ended at the same time the three-game winning streak of Urunday. Juventud forced 20 Urunday turnovers. It was a good game for forward Sabrina Molina (-2001) who led her team to a victory with a double-double by scoring 10 points, 17 rebounds and 4 assists. Swingman Catalina Pereira (176-2004, agency: BIG) contributed with 22 points and 5 assists for the winners. Juventud's coach used a ten-player rotation in such tough game. Argentinian guard Melina Marcial (168-1998) answered with 25 points and 5 rebounds for Urunday. Juventud have a solid series of three victories in a row. They moved-up to seventh place, which they share with defeated Urunday.
Another exciting game was a derby match between two teams from Montevideo: D.Sporting (#1) and Yale (#2). D.Sporting (13-2) won against visiting Yale (11-4) 91-78. It ended at the same time the three-game winning streak of Yale. Center Josefina Rivera (177-1998) stepped up with a double-double by scoring 20 points and 13 rebounds (on 8-of-10 shooting from the field) for the winners and Jennifer Munoz chipped in 18 points, 12 rebounds and 5 assists. D.Sporting's coach used entire bench which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. The best for the losing side was Argentinian point guard Julieta Sienra (161-2003) with 20 points, 7 rebounds and 6 assists. Defending champion maintains first place with 13-2 record. Yale at the other side dropped to the third position with four games lost.
Bottom-ranked Cordon is still unable to win any game. This time they could not use their home court advantage losing their 15th consecutive match to ninth ranked Tabare (4-11) 59-48 on Saturday evening. Matilde Talamas nailed a double-double by scoring 13 points and 16 rebounds for the winning side. Victoria Cardone came up with 13 points and 8 rebounds for Cordon in the defeat. Both coaches used bench players and allowed the starting five to rest. Tabare maintains ninth place with 4-11 record. Newly promoted Cordon still closes the standings with 15 games lost.

In the last game of round 9 Lagomar smashed Aguada on the road 69-45.

Aguada - Lagomar 45-69

We could consider it a predictable result in the game between close teams when fifth ranked Lagomar (6-9) crushed on the road 4th placed Aguada (6-10) 69-45 on Saturday. Lagomar dominated down low during the game scoring 44 of its points in the paint compared to Aguada's 22. Lagomar forced 30 Aguada turnovers. Argentinian Anahi Albornoz (-1998) nailed a double-double by scoring 21 points and 11 rebounds for the winning side and point guard Camila Panetta (162-2001) accounted for 16 points. Argentinian center Ornela Bacchini (188-1989, college: OLLU, agency: BIG) came up with a double-double by scoring 16 points and 13 rebounds and forward Milena Gomensoro (170-1999) added 5 points and 10 rebounds respectively for Aguada in the defeat. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Lagomar moved-up to fourth place. Aguada lost fourth consecutive game. They dropped to the fifth position with ten games lost.

D.Sporting players were unselfish on offense dishing 24 assists comparing to just 11 passes made by Yale's players.
