SPB Round 3: Cangrejeros lose the game and top position

SPB Regular Season is still in too early stage and there may be still significant changes in the standings. Here is the last round review presented by Job Market.

The most important game of round 3 took place in La Guaira where Piratas beat Cangrejeros (1-1) 87-75 on Friday night. It was a great evening for Dominican guard Juan Suero (196-1993) who led his team to a victory scoring 24 points, 7 rebounds and 4 assists (on 8-of-10 shooting from the field). The former international center Javinger Vargas (202-1990) helped adding 19 points and 10 rebounds. The best for the losing side was American Akeem Ellis (196-1990, college: Coppin St.) with 13 points and 5 rebounds. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Cangrejeros will play next round against strong Cocodrilos trying to make it back to the top of the standings. Piratas will try to continue on its current victory against Spartans in Caracas.
Centauros (1-1) recorded a loss in Margarita. Hosts were defeated by Llaneros (0-2) 68-64. It was an exceptional evening for Dominican point guard Yerri Flores (188-1996, college: High School) who led the winners and scored 21 points (on 7-of-8 shooting from the field). Carlos Rodriguez accounted for 10 points and 7 rebounds. The former international forward Elder Gimenez (186-1991) came up with 19 points for Centauros in the defeat. Both coaches tested many bench players in such tough game. Llaneros will play against Guaros in Barquisimeto in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Centauros will play at home against Toros and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
Quite upsetting was Toros' (#3) home defeat in a game versus Guaros 87-75. The best player for the winners was Rodney Green who scored 18 points and 4 assists. At the other side the best for losing team was Brian Guidi who recorded 17 points and 7 rebounds. Both coaches allowed to play bench players saving starting five for next games. Guaros will meet at home Llaneros (#4) in the next round. Toros will play against Centauros in Margarita and it may be a tough game between close rivals.

There were no shocking results in the rest of the games of round 3: Cocodrilos destroyed Panteras on the opponent's court 76-56. Winless Taurinos unfortunately lost to Heroes in a home game 83-95. Diablos managed to beat Spartans on the road 77-76. Toros were defeated by Heroes on its own court 79-93. Winless Taurinos lost to undefeated Broncos in Caracas 64-100. Gaiteros lost to defending champion Trotamundos at home 75-87. Winless Gigantes lost to undefeated Guaiqueries on the opponent's court 94-96.
The most impressive stats of the last round was 18 points, 9 rebounds and 4 assists by Francisco Centeno of Guaiqueries.

Panteras - Cocodrilos 56-76

Very expected game in Caracas where Panteras (0-3) were crushed by Cocodrilos (3-0) 76-56 on Wednesday. Cocodrilos looked well-organized offensively handing out 25 assists. The best player for the winners was Dominican Luis Montero (203-1993, college: South Plains) who scored 26 points, 5 rebounds and 8 assists. American-Mexican forward Tony Mitchell (203-1992, college: N.Texas) chipped in 15 points and 8 rebounds. At the other side the best for losing team was guard Yeferson Guerra (192-2003, agency: Pro Sports) who recorded 14 points, 6 rebounds and 5 assists and the former international swingman Pedro Chourio (186-1990, agency: Pro Sports) added 7 points and 8 rebounds respectively. Heroes dominated down low during the game scoring 60 of its points in the paint compared to Taurinos' 40. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 21 assists. The best player for the winners was Dominican point guard Richard Bautista (185-1997) who scored 19 points, 8 assists and 4 steals. Forward Kelvin Caraballo (198-1988) chipped in 14 points and 8 rebounds (perfect from the field making all six shots). At the other side the best for losing team was American guard Dazon Ingram (196-1997, college: UCF) who recorded 23 points, 7 rebounds and 4 assists and the former international guard Bryant Duran (180-1999) added 22 points respectively. We cannot really consider it an upset in the game between close teams in Caracas where Spartans (0-2) were edged by Diablos (1-2) 77-76 on Thursday. Diablos outrebounded Spartans 46-32 including a 20-8 advantage in offensive rebounds. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 22 assists. The best player for the winners was Dominican forward Bayron Matos (206, college: S.Florida) who had a double-double by scoring 16 points, 18 rebounds and 4 assists. Dominican point guard Raimer Santana (183-1997) chipped in 22 points and 5 assists. At the other side the best for losing team was American forward Will Davis II (203-1992, college: UC Irvine) who recorded 27 points, 6 rebounds and 4 assists and Nelson Palacios (192-1992) added 14 points and 6 assists respectively. The best player for the winners was the former international power forward Francisco Centeno (203-1985) who scored 18 points, 9 rebounds and 4 assists. American-Nigerian swingman Tanksley Efianayi (198-1994, college: UCF) chipped in 18 points. At the other side the best for losing team was American-Puerto Rican forward Jonathan Ocasio (196-1992, college: New Haven) who recorded 26 points and the former international Jose Bracho (190-1998) added 15 points, 6 rebounds and 4 assists respectively. Both teams had five players each who scored in double figures. Gigantes' coach Fabricio Salas tried various players' combinations and tested in total eleven players in this game, but that didn't help. Guaiqueries will meet Gladiadores in the next round and it will be for sure the game of the week. Gigantes will play against Marinos and hope to get finally their first victory.
