SPB Round 9: Marinos defeat Guaiqueries in the closest game of the week

Here is the last round review presented by Job Market.

The most exciting game of round 9 in the SPB took place in Puerto La Cruz. This derby game ended with only one-point defeat on the road of second-best Guaiqueries (5-3) to fourth ranked Marinos (3-4) 88-87 on Wednesday evening. 27 personal fouls committed by Guaiqueries helped opponents get some easy free throw opportunities. Dominican Yeison Colome (190-1996) stepped up and scored 39 points (!!!), 7 rebounds and 5 assists for the winners and Dominican forward Miguel Simon (203, college: ASA CC) chipped in 12 points and 7 rebounds. Marinos' coach Lucas Zurita used an eleven-player rotation in such tough game. The best for the losing side was American forward Tre McLean (197-1993, college: Chattanooga) with 20 points and 8 rebounds. Marinos moved-up to third place, which they share with Gigantes. Guaiqueries at the other side keep the second position with three games lost. They share it with Trotamundos and Gaiteros. Marinos is looking forward to face Cangrejeros (#5) in Maturin in the next round. Guaiqueries will play on the road against Spartans in Caracas and are hoping to win this game.
Very important is a home loss of second ranked Trotamundos (5-3) against fourth ranked Llaneros (2-6) on Wednesday night. Host Trotamundos were defeated by Llaneros in a tough game in La Asuncion 82-90. It ended at the same time the two-game winning streak of Trotamundos. Dominican point guard Yerri Flores (188-1996, college: High School) nailed 16 points for the winning side and Julian Ruiz accounted for 11 points and 9 assists. American swingman Mario Little (198-1987, college: Kansas) came up with 18 points and 5 rebounds for Trotamundos in the defeat. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Llaneros moved-up to third place, which they share with Taurinos. Defending champion Trotamundos keep the second position with three games lost. They share it with Guaiqueries and Gaiteros. Llaneros will play against Taurinos (#3) in La Asuncion in the next round, which may be the game of the day. Trotamundos will play on the road against the league's second-placed Guaros in Barquisimeto and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
The game between Top Four teams took place in Barquisimeto. Second ranked host Guaros (6-2) defeated 3rd placed Taurinos (2-6) 82-68. The best player for the winners was Heissler Guillent who scored 21 points and 7 assists. Guaros' coach Yonaicker Ecker allowed to play the deep bench players saving starting five for next games. At the other side the best for losing team was Dazon Ingram who recorded 12 points, 8 rebounds and 6 assists. Guaros keep a position of league leader, which they share with 3 other teams. Loser Taurinos keep the third place with six games lost. They share the position with Llaneros. Guaros will meet at home league's second-placed Trotamundos in the next round and it will be for sure the game of the week. Taurinos will play against Llaneros in Caracas and it may be a tough game between close rivals.

There were no shocking results in the rest of the games of round 9: Cangrejeros lost to Gladiadores on the opponent's court 71-86. Diablos lost to undefeated Piratas in a home game 73-83. Centauros recorded a loss to Heroes on the road 71-81.



Gladiadores - Cangrejeros 86-71

Very expected game in Caracas where 5th ranked Cangrejeros (1-7) were defeated by first ranked Gladiadores (7-1) 86-71 on Wednesday. Gladiadores outrebounded Cangrejeros 49-30 including a 17-4 advantage in offensive rebounds. The best player for the winners was international point guard Gregory Vargas (181-1986, agency: Pro Sports) who had a double-double by scoring 19 points and 10 rebounds. The former international forward Anthony Perez (206-1993, college: Ole Miss) chipped in 20 points and 7 rebounds. At the other side the best for losing team was Dominican swingman Luis Feliz (190-2002) who recorded 23 points and 6 rebounds and point guard Emiro Hernandez (188-1994) added 12 points respectively. Both coaches tested many bench players and allowed the starting five to rest. Gladiadores have an impressive series of five victories in a row. They maintain first place with 7-1 record. Cangrejeros lost seventh consecutive game. They keep the fifth position with seven games lost. They share it with Toros. Gladiadores will meet Gigantes (#3) in the next round, which may be the game of the day. Cangrejeros will play against Marinos in Puerto La Cruz and it may be a tough game between close rivals.

Rather predictable result in Caracas where leader Piratas (7-0) defeated 4th placed Diablos (1-6) 83-73 on Wednesday. The best player for the winners was Dominican guard Juan Suero (196-1993) who scored 20 points, 5 rebounds and 4 assists. Dominican point guard Miguel Dicent (190-1994, college: Morehead St.) chipped in 12 points and 5 assists. At the other side the best for losing team was forward Jose Manaure (193-1987) who recorded 17 points and 8 rebounds and the former international point guard Abrouse Acosta (180-1992) added 18 points and 4 assists respectively. Four Diablos players scored in double figures. Both coaches tested many bench players and allowed the starting five to rest. Piratas have an impressive series of seven victories in a row. They maintain first place with 7-0 record. Diablos lost fourth consecutive game. They keep the fourth position with six games lost. They share it with Spartans. Piratas will meet at home league's second-placed Cocodrilos in the next round and it will be for sure the game of the week. Diablos will have a break next round.

They outrebounded Trotamundos 38-25 including 25 on the defensive glass. Llaneros players were unselfish on offense dishing 21 assists. Trotamundos were plagued by 24 personal fouls down the stretch. Everything could happen in Caracas at the game between two tied teams. Both fifth ranked Heroes and 4th placed Centauros had identical 3-4 record. This time Heroes used a home court advantage and won against the opponent from Margarita 81-71 on Thursday night. The best player for the winners was Dominican point guard Richard Bautista (185-1997) who had a double-double by scoring 13 points, 5 rebounds and 13 assists. British center Kavell Bigby-Williams (211-1995, college: LSU) chipped in 17 points and 6 rebounds. Five Heroes players scored in double figures. Heroes' coach Ricardo Gonzalez used an eleven-player rotation and allowed the starting five to rest. At the other side the best for losing team was Spanish-Dominican power forward Jhonatan Araujo (206-1996) who recorded 14 points and 9 rebounds and Argentinian guard Selem Safar (191-1987) added 15 points and 4 assists respectively.
