SPB Round 7 (Regular Season): Marinos are defeated by Guaiqueries

Here is the last round review presented by Job Market.

The game between second ranked Marinos (4-2) and sixth ranked Guaiqueries (3-1) was the most important one in the last round on Sunday night. Marinos were crushed by Guaiqueries in Caracas 99-77. Guaiqueries outrebounded Marinos 43-25 including a 31-18 advantage in defensive rebounds. Guaiqueries shot the lights out from three sinking 14 long-distance shots on high 53.8 percentage. It was a great evening for Dominican Juan Guerrero (203-1993) who led his team to a victory scoring 28 points and 6 rebounds (on 11-of-14 shooting from the field). American guard Tyrone White (201-1990, college: CSUB) helped adding 21 points and 6 rebounds. At the losing side American power forward Diamond Stone (208-1997, college: Maryland) responded with 12 points and 7 rebounds. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Guaiqueries maintains sixth place with 3-1 record, which they share with Brillantes. Newly promoted Marinos dropped to the third position with two games lost. They share it with Pioneros and Spartans. Both teams do not play next round, which will be an opportunity for some rest.
Panteras has finally registered their first victory this season after four consecutive losses. They used home court advantage to defeat Spartans (4-2) 96-94. It was an exceptional evening for American swingman Tae Williams (201-2000, college: CSU, agency: JCK Sports Group) who led the winners with a double-double by scoring 28 points, 11 rebounds and 4 assists. Davonte Davis accounted for 20 points and 6 assists. Dominican guard Juan Suero (196-1993) came up with 22 points, 7 rebounds and 7 assists for Spartans in the defeat. Both coaches used bench players in such tough game. Panteras maintains tenth place with 1-4 record, which they share with Heroes and Centauros. Spartans at the other side dropped to the third position with two games lost. They share it with Pioneros and Marinos. Panteras will play against Centauros (#10) in Margarita in the next round. Spartans will have a break next round.
SPB top team - Gaiteros (5-0) managed to deliver another win on Sunday. This time they beat twelfth ranked Centauros (1-4) in Maracaibo 94-81. Andre Nation fired 19 points and 5 rebounds for the winners. Yustin Llerena produced 17 points and 6 rebounds for lost side. Both coaches tested many bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Undefeated Gaiteros have an impressive series of five victories in a row. Defending champion maintains first place with 5-0 record. Centauros lost fourth consecutive game. They dropped to the tenth position with four games lost. They share it with Panteras and Heroes. Gaiteros will meet bottom-ranked Piratas (#13) in the next round which should be an easy win for them. Centauros will play against Panteras and it may be a tough game between close rivals.

In the last two games of round 7 Brillantes won against Piratas on the opponent's court 93-91. Pioneros managed to outperform Piratas in a home game 81-68.
The most impressive stats of the last round was 11 points and 15 rebounds by Kelby Kramer of Pioneros.




Piratas - Brillantes 91-93

Very expected game in La Guaira where bottom-ranked Piratas (0-6) were edged by fifth ranked Brillantes (3-1) 93-91 on Sunday. American forward Von Cameron Davis (196-2001, college: Kent St., agency: JCK Sports Group) fired 25 points and 5 rebounds for the winners. His fellow American import guard Duane Wilson (189-1994, college: Texas A&M) chipped in 20 points. Wilson is a former Eurobasket Summer League player, which is considered top international summer league in the market. Brillantes' coach Gustavo Garcia used a ten-player rotation in such tough game. Dominican Yeison Colome (190-1996) produced 34 points (!!!) and 5 assists and American forward Austin Trice (203-2000, college: ODU) added 22 points and 14 rebounds respectively for lost side. Despite that victory Brillantes went down to sixth position due to points difference, which they share with Guaiqueries. Loser Piratas still closes the standings with six games lost. Brillantes will have a break next round, and it should allow them to practice more before next game. Piratas will play against the league's leader Gaiteros (#1) and hope to get finally their first victory.

Gaiteros outrebounded Centauros 44-28 including 30 on the defensive glass. Great defensive blocking was one of the keys in this match when Gaiteros made 9 blocks. Pioneros dominated down low during the game scoring 52 of its points in the paint compared to Piratas' 28. Pioneros had a 39-22 advantage in offensive rebounds. The former international point guard Heissler Guillent (186-1986) fired 17 points and 7 assists for the winners. American center Kelby Kramer (213-1999, college: MSU, agency: Starting 5) chipped in a double-double by scoring 11 points and 15 rebounds. Four Pioneros players scored in double figures.
