Mexico earn the title in Cartago - Sep 28, 2015

Mexico - Guatemala 57-49
Mexico claimed the COCABA Championship title. They knocked down Guatemala in the championship clash in Cartago. Guatemala dominated throughout first three periods. They piled up a 41:32 advantage heading into the fourth frame. But Mexico went on a strong 25:8 run in the final term and snatched the victory at the end. Karen Ruiz delivered 17 points for the champions. Vanessa Dominguez added 12 points for the winners. Sonia Vasquez (84) and Blanca Amado (188-G/F-79) responded with 15 points each for Guatemala.
3-4 Place
Costa Rica - El Salvador 39-57
El Salvador stepped onto the pedestal in Cartago. They edged hosting Costa Rica to gain the Bronze medals at the championship. Vanessa Aguilar (173-G) scored 16 points, grabbed 17 rebounds and issued 5 assists to lead the winners. El Salvador recorded a 32:17 halftime lead. Costa Rica narrowed the deficit at 9-point mark heading into the fourth frame. But El Salvador used a 15:6 run in the final period to ice the victory. Aida Funes (167-PG-84) delivered 13 points for the winners. Mariana Villalobos answered with 15 points for Costa Rica.

5-6 Place
Honduras - Panama 68-60
Honduras capped their COCABA Championship campaign with victory. They edged Panama to finish in the fifth position. Nelly Rapalo (99) sank 29 points to lead the effort. Panama jumped to a 31:26 halftime lead. However Honduras struck right back with a 25:9 rally in the third term to spur ahead. Panama tried hard to come back into the contest but came out empty-handed at the end. Jani Martinez (C) tossed in 21 points for Honduras. Shayra Brown (175-G/F-92) notched 19 points for Panama.


Mexico and Guatemala to clash for title in Cartago - Sep 27, 2015

SEMIFINALS
Mexico - Costa Rica 60-42
Mexico sealed their COCABA Championship Final appearance. They knocked down hosting Costa Rica in the semifinal clash. Karen Ruiz scored 18 points to lead the effort. Mexico got to a strong start. They established a comfortable 33:14 halftime lead. Mexico followed with a 20:10 run in the third term to clear off for good. Brisa Silva (170-G-84, college: Oklahoma St.) had 15 points, 7 assists and 4 rebounds for Mexico. Ana Matamoros (190-C-95) responded with 12 points and 8 rebounds for Costa Rica.

El Salvador - Guatemala 53-61
Guatemala made it into the COCABA Championship Final. They rallied past El Salvador in the semifinal clash in Cartago. Sonia Vasquez (84) scored 17 points and grabbed 15 rebounds to pace the winners. Guatemala jumped to an 18:11 lead ten minutes into the game. El Salvador narrowed the deficit at 2-point mark at the final intermission But Guatemala triggered a 15:9 run in the fourth frame to seal the victory. Blanca Amado (188-G/F-79) coonected for 15 points and 11 rebounds for Guatemala. Vanessa Aguilar (173-G) responded with 17 points and 7 rebounds for El Salvador.

Group A
Honduras - Costa Rica 61-60
Honduras nipped Costa Rica but failed to make it into the semifinal stage. Nelly Rapalo (99) scored 20 points and issued 7 assists to lead the winners. Honduras piled up a 29:18 halftime lead. Costa Rica went on a comeback rally in the second half. They got within striking distance late in regulation but could not deliver losing the clash. Jani Martinez (C) tossed in 17 points and grabbed 22 rebounds for the winners. Mariane Villalobos responded with 12 points for Costa Rica.

Group B
Panama - Mexico 62-84
Mexico outgunned Panama to stay undefeated at the COCABA Championship. Karen Ruiz scored 16 points to pace the winners. Mexico recorded a 23:9 lead after ten minutes. They unleashed 45 points in the second half and coasted to the victory. Rosaura Guardiola (180-F/C-91) delivered 15 points for the winners. Shayra Brown (175-G/F-92) responded with game-high 26 points and 12 rebounds for Panama.

Nicaragua - Guatemala 29-78
Guatemala thumped Nicaragua to clinch the second position in Group B. Sonia Vasquez (84) notched 17 points to lead the winners. Guatemala recorded a 41:11 halftime lead and never looked back en route to the victory. Alma Lopez (165-G-86) netted 13 points for the winners. Illiana Guerrero (87) responded with 7 points for Nicaragua.

Group A
El Salvador - Honduras 88-58
El Salvador fired past Honduras for the first victory in Cartago. They fired past Honduras in Group A. Aida Funes (167-PG-84) provided 22 points to pace the winners. El Salvador recorded a 44:22 halftime advantage. El Salvador exploded with 44 points in the second half and cruised to the victory. Adriana Rivas (176-F/G-96) netted 20 points for the winners. Nelly Rapalo (99) responded with 23 points and 7 assists for Honduras.

Group B
Mexico - Guatemala 78-46
Mexico recorded the second straight victory at the COCABA Championship. They rolled past Guatemala for 2-0 record in Group B. Brisa Silva (170-G-84, college: Oklahoma St.) stepped up with 17 points to pace the winners. Mexico registered a 43:21 halftime lead. They sank 35 points in the second half and coasted to the victory. Myriam Lara (186-F-94) netted 15 points and grabbed 11 rebounds for the winners. Sonia Vasquez (84) responded with 12 points and 8 rebounds for Guatemala.

Panama - Nicaragua 80-69
Panama held off Nicaragua for 1-1 record in Group B. Veronica Vega (C-90) stepped up with 19 points to lead the effort. Nicaragua jumped to a 22:15 lead after the opening frame. But Panama turned things around in the next quarters. They recorded a comfortable 64:59 lead at the final intermission. Panama held Nicaragua to just 10 points in the fourth quarter and raced to the win. Anneth Him-Lazarenko (178-F) delivered 16 points for Panama. Jenny Salomon responded with 24 points and 10 rebounds for Nicaragua.

Costa Rica - El Salvador 73-68
Costa Rica earned a narrow victory over El Salvador at the start of the COCABA championship. Ana Matamoros scored 22 points and grabbed 21 rebounds to lead the hosts. Costa Rica recorded a 39:35 halftime lead. El Salvador narrowe the gap at just three points at the final break. But Costa Rica held El Salvador to just 13 points in the fourth quarter and raced to the win. Maria Alvarado (172-G-85) and Silvia Betancourt (170-SG) had 12 points each for the winners. Vanessa Aguilar (173-G) responded with 21 points and 7 rebounds for El Salvador.

Group B
Guatemala - Panama 85-74
Guatemala got to the winning start of their COCABA Championship campaign. They held off Panama for 1-0 record. Sonia Vasquez (84) stepped up with 33 points and 13 rebounds to pace the winners. Guatemala recorded a 43:35 halftime lead. Panama got within 6 points at the final break. But Guatemala sank 21 points in the fourth quarter and got away with the win. Zaby Aldana netted 11 points for the winners. Anneth Him-Lazarenko (178-F) responded with 19 points and 10 rebounds for Panama.

Nicaragua - Mexico 39-87
Mexico outgunned Nicaragua in the opener in Group B. Karen Ruiz nailed 19 points to lead the charge. Mexico registered a 38:18 halftime advantage. Mexico went on a 30:12 run in the third term to clear off for good. Brisa Silva (170-G-84, college: Oklahoma St.) netted 11 points and handed out 7 assists for Mexico. Illiana Guerrero (87) responded with 11 points for Nicaragua.
