Cup Round 1: Temuco lose to Espanol O.

The Regular Season in CUP just started. Here is the last round review presented by LBM Management.

The most crucial game of the last round was a loss of Temuco at the home court on Saturday night. Hosts were rolled over by Espanol O. 96-64. They made 22-of-29 free shots (75.9 percent) during the game. Espanol O. had a 34-21 advantage in offensive rebounds. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 24 assists. 24 personal fouls committed by Temuco helped opponents get some easy free throw opportunities. International Carlos Lauler (190) stepped up and scored 21 points and 5 assists for the winners and American center Dishon Lowery (200-1998, college: OKBU) chipped in 11 points and 15 rebounds. At the losing side American forward Malik Thomas (201, college: Norfolk St.) responded with a double-double by scoring 24 points, 12 rebounds and 4 assists. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Very significant was Concepcion's 83-point road victory against Municipal C. 137-54. International point guard Sebastian Carrasco (180-2000) nailed 28 points and 6 assists for the winning side and Diego Silva accounted for 21 points, 7 rebounds and 9 assists. Center Matias Villagran (199-1988) came up with 8 points, 13 rebounds and 4 assists for Municipal C. in the defeat. Since the result was very predictable, it gave the chance for the coaches to test many bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Concepcion will play against Talca at home in the next round. Municipal C. will play against Talca and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
Quite upsetting was Puerto Montt's 22-point home defeat in a game versus Ancud who smashed hosts Sebastian Suarez fired 28 points for the winners. Cristian Urrutia produced 23 points for lost side. Since the result was very predictable, it gave the chance for the coaches to test many bench players and allowed the starting five to rest. Ancud will meet at home Osorno in the next round, which may be the game of the day. Puerto Montt will have a break next round.

There were no shocking results in the rest of the games of round 1: Stadio Italiano lost to Boston College on the opponent's court 57-66. Puente Alto lost to Los Leones in a home game 71-79. Arabe de Valp. lost to Sergio Ceppi on the road 53-67. Sportiva Italiana defeated Catolica on its own court 81-67. Liceo Curico lost to Quilicura in a road game 40-70. Tinguiririca won against Tomas L. at home 69-61. Talca outscored Aleman on the opponent's court 74-49. Las Animas lost to Valdivia in a home game 79-82. Puerto Varas crushed Osorno on the road 109-45.
