LNB Round 4: Concepcion defeat Valdivia

Here is the last round review presented by Job Market.

The most crucial game of the last round was the first loss of Valdivia (2-1) at the home court on Saturday night. Hosts were defeated by top-ranked Concepcion (2-0) 74-64. It ended at the same time the two-game winning streak of Valdivia. They outrebounded Valdivia 39-28 including 28 on the defensive glass. Worth to mention a great performance of Venezuelan Carlos Milano (198) who helped to win the game recording a double-double by scoring 14 points and 17 rebounds. American forward Jerry Evans (203-1990, college: Nevada) contributed with 10 points and 8 rebounds for the winners. Concepcion's coach Cipriano Nunez used a ten-player rotation which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Argentinian Juan Manuel Rivero (191-1985) replied with a double-double by scoring 14 points and 10 rebounds for Valdivia. Defending champion moved-up to fourth place. Valdivia at the other side dropped to the fifth position with one game lost. They share it with Espanol T. and Espanol O.. Concepcion are looking forward to face league's leader Ancud at home in the next round and it may be the game of the week. Valdivia's supporters also look forward to an exciting derby game next round, where their team will travel locally in Valdivia to the arena Las Animas.
Important game to mention about took place in Talca. Sixth ranked Puerto Varas (3-1) saved a 2-point victory on the road edging much higher ranked Espanol T. (2-1) 71-69 on Sunday evening. It ended at the same time the two-game winning streak of Espanol T.. Worth to mention a great performance of the former international center Sebastian Silva (187-1996) who helped to win the game recording a double-double by scoring 10 points, 11 rebounds and 4 assists and Juan Fontena who added 11 points and 8 rebounds during the contest. Puerto Varas' coach Leonardo Monsalvez allowed to play the deep bench players in such tough game. At the losing side American forward Davon Haynes (203-1991, college: UAPB) responded with 17 points and 8 rebounds. Puerto Varas moved-up to third place. Espanol T. at the other side dropped to the fifth position with one game lost. They share it with Valdivia and Espanol O.. Puerto Varas will play against league's second-placed Los Leones in Quilpue in the next round and it will be for sure the game of the week. Espanol T. will have a break next round.
Tinguiririca's fans can celebrate the first win of their team after two consecutive losses. They used home court advantage to defeat Puerto Montt (1-3) 72-55 on Sunday. The winners were led by Gianncarlo Caraboni who scored that evening 26 points and 9 rebounds. Even a double-double of 16 points and 13 rebounds by Martin Chervo did not help to save the game for Puerto Montt. Both coaches used bench players and allowed the starting five to rest. Tinguiririca (1-2) left bottom position moving up to eighth place, which they share with 3 other teams. Loser Puerto Montt dropped to the twelfth position with three games lost. They share it with Catolica and Las Animas. Tinguiririca will meet Quilicura (#9) on the road in the next round. Puerto Montt will play against Catolica and it may be a tough game between close rivals.

Other games in round 4 were not that significant. Espanol O. beat Catolica on the road 81-77. Los Leones destroyed Las Animas on its own court 95-71. Las Animas unfortunately lost to Catolica in Santiago 94-96. Concepcion rolled over Temuco at home 127-60.
The most impressive performance of 4th round was 19 points, 5 rebounds and 10 assists by Sebastian Carrasco of Concepcion.



Catolica - Espanol O. 77-81

No shocking result in a game when sixth ranked Espanol O. (2-1) beat 15th ranked Catolica (1-3) in Santiago 81-77 on Saturday. Espanol O. forced 23 Catolica turnovers. The winners were led by American guard Decensae White (198-1988, college: SF State) who had that evening a double-double by scoring 19 points, 11 rebounds, 6 assists and 4 steals and Argentinian Rodrigo Acuna (198-1995) supported him with 26 points (on 10-of-11 shooting from the field). White is a former Eurobasket Summer League player, which is considered top international summer league in the market. Even a double-double of 20 points and 16 rebounds by American forward TJ Robinson (203-1989, college: LBSU) did not help to save the game for Catolica. His fellow American import point guard Manny Payton (183-1997, college: FSU) added 22 points for lost side. Espanol O. moved-up to fifth place, which they share with Valdivia and Espanol T. Catolica lost third consecutive game. They dropped to the twelfth position with three games lost. They share it with Las Animas and Puerto Montt. Espanol O. will meet at home bottom-ranked Temuco (#15) in the next round and are hoping to win another game. Catolica will play against Puerto Montt and it may be a tough game between close rivals.

Very expected game when 8th ranked Las Animas (1-3) were smashed by top-ranked Los Leones (3-0) in Quilpue 95-71 on Monday. Los Leones dominated down low during the game scoring 60 of its points in the paint compared to Las Animas' 32. Los Leones forced 20 Las Animas turnovers and outrebounded them 49-31 including a 19-8 advantage in offensive rebounds. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 23 assists. The winners were led by DR Congolese-Canadian forward Eric Kibi (198-1990, college: ACU) who scored that evening 15 points, 9 rebounds and 4 assists and the former international forward Darrol Jones (193-1994) supported him with 21 points and 5 rebounds. Five Los Leones players scored in double figures. Even 8 points, 10 rebounds and 4 assists by the former international Diego Low (190-1997) did not help to save the game for Las Animas. Spanish Alejandro Vergara (196-1995) added 16 points for lost side. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Los Leones have a solid three-game winning streak. They keep a position of league leader, which they share with Ancud. Las Animas lost third consecutive game. They dropped to the twelfth place with three games lost. Payton is a former Eurobasket Summer League player, which is considered top summer league for players who want to play basketball overseas. Even a double-double of 28 points and 11 rebounds by Argentinian power forward Cristian Amicucci (200-1985) did not help to save the game for Las Animas. Spanish Alejandro Vergara (196-1995) added 23 points, 12 rebounds and 5 assists for lost side. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures.
