LNB Round 18: Top-ranked Concepcion wins another game

The round 18 was rather boring as all games ended with very predictable results. Here is the last round review presented by Job Market.

LNB top team - Concepcion (15-0) had no problems winning another game on Tuesday. This time they crushed fourteenth ranked Tinguiririca (3-13) in San Fernando 114-87. Concepcion forced 20 Tinguiririca turnovers and outrebounded them 34-23 including a 18-3 advantage in offensive rebounds. Concepcion looked well-organized offensively handing out 29 assists comparing to just 14 passes made by Tinguiririca's players. It was a good game for international point guard Diego Silva (186) who led his team to a victory with a double-double by scoring 20 points and 11 assists. Venezuelan Carlos Milano (198) contributed with 18 points and 11 rebounds for the winners. The former international forward Gianncarlo Caraboni replied with 18 points, 8 rebounds and 5 assists for Tinguiririca. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Undefeated Concepcion have an impressive 15-game winning streak. Defending champion maintains first position with 15-0 record. Tinguiririca at the other side keeps the fourteenth place with 13 games lost.

The former international Evandro Arteaga (178-1983) scored 26 points to lead the charge for the winners and Diego Silva chipped in 21 points and 5 assists (on 8-of-9 shooting from the field) during the contest. Concepcion's coach Cipriano Nunez felt very confident that he used entire bench which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. The best for the losing side was forward Simon Davies (-2003) with 15 points. Undefeated Concepcion have an impressive 15-game winning streak. Defending champion maintains first position with 15-0 record. Espanol T. lost third consecutive game. They keep the twelfth place with eight games lost.

There were no big surprises in other games of round 18: Espanol O. beat Castro on the road 83-74. Bottom-ranked Temuco was destroyed by Puerto Varas on its own court 59-100. Las Animas unfortunately lost to Ancud in a road game 80-84. Los Leones rolled over Quilicura at home 98-76. Puerto Montt was defeated by Valdivia on the opponent's court 72-88. Catolica was beaten by Quilicura in a home game 90-102.



Castro - Espanol O. 74-83

No shocking result in a game when seventh ranked Espanol O. (10-9) beat on the road 9th ranked Castro (8-8) 83-74. It was a great shooting night for Espanol O. especially from behind the arc, where they had solid 56.3 percentage. Argentinian point guard Nicolas Zurschmitten (183-1995) scored 25 points and 4 assists to lead the charge for the winners and American power forward Anthony Lee (206-1991, college: Ohio St., agency: BIG) chipped in 10 points, 13 rebounds and 4 assists during the contest. Espanol O.'s coach allowed to play the deep bench players saving starting five for next games. The best for the losing side was Ecuadorian center Bryan Carabali (212-1999) with a double-double by scoring 14 points, 12 rebounds and 6 blocks and Gabriel Diaz (-1999) scored 12 points and 7 assists. Four Espanol O. and five Castro players scored in double figures. Espanol O. moved-up to sixth place. Castro at the other side keeps the ninth position with eight games lost.

Very expected game when 15th ranked Temuco (1-16) was smashed at home by tenth ranked Puerto Varas (8-9) 100-59. Puerto Varas dominated down low during the game scoring 64 of its points in the paint compared to Temuco's 24. They outrebounded Temuco 57-37 including a 43-26 advantage in defensive rebounds. American forward Cameron Naylor (202-1994, college: Texas St.) had a double-double by scoring 27 points and 18 rebounds to lead the charge for the winners and the former international power forward Juan Fontena (196-1987) chipped in 14 points and 9 rebounds during the contest. Naylor is a former Eurobasket Summer League player, which is considered top international summer league in the market. Five Puerto Varas players scored in double figures. The best for the losing side was Uruguayan point guard Martin Perdomo (178-1995) with 25 points and 4 assists (went 7 for 7 at the free throw line) and Brazilian power forward Diego Dias Silva (207-1990) produced a double-double by scoring 10 points and 15 rebounds. Since the result was very predictable, it gave the chance for the coaches to test many bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Puerto Varas maintains tenth position with 8-9 record. Temuco lost sixth consecutive game. They stay at the bottom place with 16 games lost.

Ancud - Las Animas 84-80

Rather predictable result when third ranked Ancud (12-4) won against at home 7th ranked Las Animas (9-8) 84-80. However just four-point win is not that big difference and the fans of host team counted on more convincing victory. Ancud made 23-of-26 charity shots (88.5 percent) during the game. They also forced 19 Las Animas turnovers. American Rakim Brown (198-1991, college: Humboldt St.) scored 27 points and 9 rebounds to lead the charge for the winners and the other American import forward Stephen Maxwell (201-1993, college: CSUN) chipped in 20 points and 6 rebounds during the contest. Ancud's coach allowed to play the deep bench players in such tough game. The best for the losing side was Argentinian power forward Cristian Amicucci (200-1985) with a double-double by scoring 15 points, 13 rebounds and 8 assists and Argentinian guard Christian Schoppler (185-1986) scored 17 points and 5 rebounds. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Ancud maintains third position with 12-4 record having just two points less than leader Concepcion. Las Animas at the other side dropped to the eighth place with eight games lost.
