USA defend title in Valdivia- July 18, 2016
FINALUSA - Canada 109-62The USA defended their title in Valdivia. They coasted past Canada in the championship game. The USA dominated from start to finish in this one. They grabbed a 23:20 lead after ten minutes. The USA sank 28 points in the second term to take a 17-point halftime lead. They stayed aggressive offensively in the second half. The USA exploded with 33 points in the third term to clear off for good. Tyasha Harris (178-F-98) was responsible for 18 points in the victory. Lauren Cox (193-F-98) added 15 points and 9 rebounds for the champions. Mikaela Brewer (178-G/F-98, college: CAN NT U16) responded with 16 points for Canada. 3-4 PlaceBrazil - Puerto Rico 70-64Brazil stepped onto the pedestal in Valdivia. They beat Puerto Rico to claim the Bronze medals. Licinara Bispo (184-F/C-99) posted 20 points and 9 rebounds to lead the winners. Puerto Rico eked out a 24:23 halftime lead. But Brazil went on a 19:13 run in the third term to spur ahead. They unloaded 28 points in the fourth term to ice the win. Izabela Leite (170-G-99) finished with 16 points, 8 rebounds and 5 assists for the winners. Angelique Rodriguez (180-F-99) responded with 28 points for Puerto Rico. 5-6 PlaceMexico - Chile 85-51Mexico clinched the fifth position at the championship. They wrapped up their campaign with a comfortable win over Chile. Diana Villalobos (170-SG-98) delivered 22 points for the hosts. Mexico accumulated a 27:20 halftime lead. They followed with a 34:13 run in the third term to clear off for good. Celilly Telles (174-SF-98) tossed in 19 points for the winning side. Constanza Antero (169-PG-98) responded with 13 points for Chile. 7-8 PlaceVenezuela - Guatemala 77-64Guadalupe Diaz (163-PG-99) nailed 31 points to lead Venezuela past Guatemala in the clash for the 7th position. Venezuela registered a 23:17 lead after the opening frame. They maintained the advantage throughout the next two quarters. Venezuela entered the final period up by 6 points and marched to the win at the end. Yanetsy Zamaro (178-PF-98) accounted for 13 points and 13 rebounds in the victory. Nathaly Pinelo (167-PG-99) replied with 12 points, 10 assists and 6 rebounds for Guatemala. |
