USA top Canada to earn title in Buenos Aires

USA overcame Canada to claim Gold in Buenos Aires. Cotie McMahon (180-F-2004) stepped up with 22 points to pace the winners as they won the 10th straight title. USA posted a 41-31 halftime lead. Canada narrowed the deficit at 4-point mark at the final break. But USA responded with a 25-point outburst in the fourth term to ice the win. Kira Rice (180-G-2004) notched 18 points in the victory. T'Yana Todd (182-G-2004) replied with 19 points for Canada.
3-4 Place
Argentina - Brazil 55-50 2OT
Argentina stepped onto the pedestal in Buenos Aires. They outlasted Brazil in double-overtime thriller to ensure Bronze medals. Brazil led by three points at the big break. Argentina denied the deficit in the third term and eked out a one-point lead at the third break. But Brazil held their opponents to just 8 points in the fourth quarter to send the game into overtime. The teams could not decide on the winner in the first extra period before Argentina spurred ahead in the next one to steal the win. Lara Tribouley (181-F-2004) posted 13 points, while Julia Fernandez (185-C-2004) added 10 points and 10 rebounds for Argentina. Arianny Francisco (184-C-2005) responded with 14 points for Brazil.

5-6 Place
Colombia - Mexico 39-64
Mexico stormed past Colombia to finish fifth at the tournament. Mexico piled up a comfortable 42-19 halftime lead. Mexico held their opponents to just 5 points in the fourth frame to seal the win. Itzel Navarro (2004) delivered 21 points, while Julieta Ceja (2004) added 14 points for Mexico. Valeria Rodriguez (176-SF-2005) answered with 13 points and 9 rebounds for Colombia.

7-8 Place
El Salvador - Puerto Rico 32-57
Puerto Rico thumped El Salvador to earn the seventh position. Camila De Pool (170-SF-2006) and Franchesca Torres (168-SF-2005) had 9 points each for the winners. Puerto Rico built a 27-18 halftime lead. They held El Salvador to 14 points in the second half and raced to the win. Victoria Escribano (174-F-2004) had 8 points and 10 rebounds for Puerto Rico. Gabriela Alfaro (167-F-2004) answered with 16 points for El Salvador.
