Canada outlasted Mexico to open win count in Group A. Canada grabbed a 36-24 halftime lead. They held Mexico to just 16 points in the second half and eased to the victory. T'Yana Todd (182-G-2004) posted 16 points, while Lemyah Hylton (181-SG-2004) added 11 points in the win. Anisa Jeffreis (2004) replied with 9 points for Mexico.
Argentina - Brazil 34-54
Brazil cruised past Argentina in the opener. Argentina grabbed a 13-7 lead after ten minutes. But Brazil answered with an 18-8 run in the second term to surge ahead. They held Argentina to just 13 points in the second half and marched to a comfortable win at the end. Stephany Goncalves (180-C-2004) finished with 21 points, while Ana Passos (176-PF-2005) added 14 points and 13 rebounds for Brazil. Alma Bourgarel (160-G-2006) answered with 7 points for Argentina.
USA - Colombia 81-29
USA cruised past Colombia to improve at 1-0 record in Group B. Isuneh Brady (190-F-2004) came up with 17 points to lead the effort. USA piled up a comfortable 34-18 halftime lead. They held Colombia to only 11 points in the second half and raced to the win. Kira Rice (180-G-2004) posted 16 points in the victory. Marta Moscarella (180-F-2007) answered with 6 points for Colombia.
El Salvador - Puerto Rico 44-65
Puerto Rico defeated El Salvador for the first win in Buenos Aires. Puerto Rico secured a 28-22 halftime lead. They went on a strong 37-22 second half run to ensure the winning outcome. Dianne Crespo (178-C-2006) delivered 16 points for Puerto Rico. Anna Laguan (157-PG-2005) answered with 15 points for El Salvador.
