USA thumped Puerto Rico to improve at 2-0 record on top of Group B. Five players scored in double digits for the winners. Joyce Edwards (190-F-2006) came up with 16 points and 10 rebounds. USA grabbed a massive 58-20 halftime lead. They limited Puerto Rico to mere 2 points in the second half and cruised to the win. Kayleigh Heckei and Sienna Betts (193-F-2006) recorded 14 points each for the USA. Desirek Nieves (170-SG-2007) answered with 9 points for Puerto Rico. Dominican Republic - Argentina 35-81 Argentina cruised past Dominican Republic for 1-1 record in Group A. Argentina jumped to a 45-11 halftime lead. They followed with a massive 34-7 run in the third term and never looked back en route to the win. Milagros Morell (191-C/F-2007) and Nerea Lagowski (195-C-2006) tossed in 13 points each for Argentina. Anny De Jesus (2006) and Leila Nunez (185-SG-2007) answered with 8 points each for Dominican Republic. Brazil - Mexico 75-65 Brazil earned the first win in Group B. They held off Mexico for 1-1 record. Brazil posted a 44-37 halftime lead. They held Mexico to just 7 points in the fourth quarter to race to the win. Ayla McDowell (2007) posted 19 points, while Micaela Cavalcanti (164-PG-2008) added 16 points for Brazil. Valeria Mora (187-C-2006) answered with 17 points for Mexico. Canada - Colombia 86-38 Canada knocked down Colombia for the second straight win in Bucaramanga. Canada piled up a 44-12 halftime lead. They controlled the tempo throughout the second half and eased to the win. Divine Tumba (184-F-2006) posted 15 points and 12 rebounds, while Kamora Morgan (F-2006) added 14 points for the North American side. Marta Moscarella (180-F-2007) answered with 11 points for Colombia. |
