LNBP Round 1: Abejas lose to Soles

The Regular Season in LNBP just started. Here is the last round review presented by Job Market.

Abejas recorded a loss in Guanajuato on Friday night. Hosts were rolled over by Soles 87-64. They dominated down low during the game scoring 50 of its points in the paint compared to Abejas' 28. The game was dominated by American players. Forward Dwayne Morgan (202-1996, college: SUU) fired 19 points and 7 rebounds for the winners. Guard Donovan Jackson (188-1996, college: Iowa St.) chipped in 20 points and 5 rebounds. Forward Tre McLean (197-1993, college: Chattanooga) produced 14 points and 6 rebounds for lost side. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Soles is looking forward to face Plateros in Fresnillo in the next round. Abejas will play at home against Libertadores and are hoping to prove to their supporters that the loss was just an accident.
Important game to mention about took place in Queretaro. Libertadores saved a 3-point victory at home edging Fuerza Regia 75-72 in the fight for the third place. Worth to mention a great performance of American Jordan Adams (196-1994, college: UCLA) who helped to win the game recording 23 points and 9 rebounds. Branden Frazier contributed with 13 points for the winners. Nigerian-American power forward OD Anosike (203-1991, college: Siena) answered with a double-double by scoring 12 points and 13 rebounds for Fuerza Regia. Libertadores will play against Abejas in Guanajuato in the next round. Fuerza Regia will play at home against Halcones UV Xalapa to get more than just one victory in their record.
A very close game took place in Xalapa between Dorados and Halcones UV Xalapa. Dorados got a very close victory on the road over Halcones UV Xalapa. Dorados managed to escape with a 1-point win 83-82 on Friday evening. Donald Sims stepped up and scored 29 points and 6 assists (made all of his seven free throws) for the winners. At the losing side O'Darien Bassett responded with 19 points, 8 rebounds and 4 assists. Dorados will meet at home Astros in the next round and it will be for sure the game of the week. Halcones UV Xalapa will play against Fuerza Regia in Monterrey and hope to win that game.

Other games of round 1 were quite predictable and ended without any surprises. Here they are:
Mineros defeated Plateros in Zacatecas 89-81. Abejas beat Soles at home 90-76. Dorados won against Halc.Xalapa on the opponent's court 97-84. Plateros managed to outperform Mineros in a home game 85-79. Winless Correcaminos lost to undefeated Astros on the road 53-99. Astros crushed Correcaminos on its own court 106-72. Fuerza Regia beat Libertadores in Monterrey 93-80.

A very close game took place in Xalapa between Dorados and Halcones UV Xalapa. Dorados got a very close victory on the road over Halcones UV Xalapa. At the losing side American guard O'Darien Bassett (189-1986, college: Troy) responded with 19 points, 8 rebounds and 4 assists and the other American import guard Shaquille Johnson (191-1990, college: Marshall) scored 20 points and 7 rebounds. Four Halcones UV Xalapa players scored in double figures. Dorados will meet at home Astros in the next round and it will be for sure the game of the week. Halcones UV Xalapa will play against Fuerza Regia in Monterrey and hope to win that game.

There was no surprise in Fresnillo where Plateros were defeated by Mineros 89-81 on Friday. Panamanian Ernesto Oglivie (203-1989) stepped up and scored 24 points and 9 rebounds (made all of his eight free throws) for the winners and naturalized American Durrell Summers (196-1989, college: Michigan St.) chipped in 16 points and 8 rebounds. Five Mineros players scored in double figures. At the losing side the former international point guard Orlando Mendez-Valdez (183-1986, college: WKU, agency: Pro Sports) responded with 21 points and 5 assists and Nicaraguan-Puerto Rican guard Jared Ruiz (188-1992) scored 13 points and 4 assists. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Mineros will meet at home Correcaminos in the next round which should be theoretically an easy game. Plateros will play against Soles and it may be a tough game between close rivals.

There was a small surprise in Guanajuato where Abejas defeated Soles 90-76 on Thursday. They outrebounded Soles 39-25 including 27 on the defensive glass. Abejas looked well-organized offensively handing out 23 assists. The game was also dominated by American players. Guard Michael Smith (193-1995, college: CBU) stepped up and scored 21 points for the winners and forward Wayne Langston (200-1993, college: Murray St.) chipped in 11 points and 10 rebounds. Five Abejas players scored in double figures. At the losing side guard Donovan Jackson (188-1996, college: Iowa St.) responded with 24 points and 5 assists (made all of his eight free throws) and Daniel Laster (199-1996, college: Gardner-Webb) scored 15 points. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Abejas will meet at home Libertadores in the next round which should be theoretically an easy game. Soles will play against Plateros in Fresnillo and hope to win that game.

The game between closely ranked teams ended with Halcones UV Xalapa's home loss to Dorados 84-97 on Saturday. Dorados shot the lights out from three sinking 19 long-distance shots on high 55.9 percentage. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 26 assists. American forward Joshua Ramirez (198-1994, college: Dominican, CA) stepped up and scored 29 points (on 10-of-13 shooting from the field) for the winners and the former international point guard Orlando Mendez-Valdez (183-1986, college: WKU, agency: Pro Sports) chipped in 14 points, 6 assists and 6 steals. Plateros' coach used a ten-player rotation which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. At the losing side American power forward Franklin Hassell (203-1988, college: ODU, agency: SDJ Sports) responded with a double-double by scoring 16 points and 10 rebounds and Panamanian Ernesto Oglivie (203-1989) produced a double-double by scoring 15 points and 10 rebounds. Four Mineros players scored in double figures. Plateros will meet at home Soles in the next round. Mineros will play against Correcaminos and hope to win that game.
