There were just five rounds played in Regular Season of CIBACOPA and we can clearly see which teams will fight for top positions and which will try to avoid bottom places. Here is the last round review presented by Job Market.
Third defeat of league's leader Toros (6-3) against fourth ranked Halcones de Ciudad Obregon (6-3) 72-67 was the most important game of the last round. It was a key game for the second position in the league. American forward Tony Farmer (201-1994, college: Lee JC) orchestrated the victory by scoring 13 points and 9 rebounds. American-Puerto Rican guard Jahvari Josiah (193-1993, college: Coppin St.) contributed with 15 points and 5 rebounds for the winners. Chilean point guard Franco Ordenes (181-1992) answered with 15 points, 9 rebounds and 8 assists for Toros. Both coaches used bench players in such tough game. Obregon moved-up to second place, which they share with defeated Toros. Toros will play next round against Tijuana trying to make it back to the top of the standings. Obregon will try to continue on its current victory against eighth ranked Angeles in Ciudad de Mexico.
Important game to mention about took place in Guaymas. Second ranked Frayles de Guasave (5-3) saved a 2-point victory on the road edging 6th ranked Ostioneros de Guaymas (3-5) 92-90 on Friday evening. American point guard Saeed Nelson (188-1998, college: American) stepped up and scored 24 points, 5 rebounds and 4 assists for the winners and Jay Pal chipped in 20 points and 6 rebounds. American point guard Amir Spears (190-2001, college: UTSA) responded with 20 points and 8 assists. Frayles de Guasave have a solid series of three victories in a row. Despite that victory Frayles went down to fourth position due to points difference. Guaymas at the other side dropped to the seventh place with five games lost. Frayles will have a break next round, and it should allow them to practice more before next game. Guaymas will play on the road against the league's leader Astros (#1) in Guadalajara and hope to get back on the winning track.
