The game had a very big importance for third-ranked UAM Univ. as it allowed them to take a leadership position. UAM Univ. defeated 14th ranked La Libertad in Managua 77-61. UAM Univ. forced 21 La Libertad turnovers and outrebounded them 48-37 including a 20-9 advantage in offensive rebounds. UAM Univ. looked well-organized offensively handing out 25 assists. The former international point guard Sharlon Hodgson (183-1994) stepped up and scored 17 points and 5 assists for the winners and guard Harry Campos (-2007) chipped in 3 points, 11 rebounds, 9 assists and 4 steals. At the losing side forward Leevon Allum (-2006) responded with a double-double by scoring 17 points and 10 rebounds. Undefeated UAM Univ. (12-0) have an impressive series of twelve victories in a row. As mentioned above they are alone now at the top position. La Libertad at the other side dropped to the thirteenth place with seven games lost. La Libertad will play next round against Americas 2 trying to get back on the winning streak. UAM Univ. will try to continue on its current victory against sixth ranked Real Esteli on the road.
Undefeated Leones (11-1) recorded its first loss in Jinotega. Visitors were defeated by fourth ranked Brumas (11-1) 84-78. It ended at the same time the 11-game winning streak of Leones. The former international guard Dayton Cacho (186-1991) nailed a double-double by scoring 14 points, 13 rebounds and 4 assists for the winning side and Juan Herrera accounted for 19 points and 6 rebounds. The former international guard Kevin Gutierrez (185-2002) came up with 25 points and 6 assists for Leones in the defeat. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. The victory was the eleventh consecutive win for Brumas. They moved-up to second place, which they share with Leones and Flecheros. Brumas will play against Pescadores (#14) in Puerto Cabezas in the next round which should be an easy win for them. Leones will play on the road against San Isidro (#17) in Matagalpa and hope to get back on the winning track.
Bottom-ranked Nicaragua U16 (0-12) is still winless. This time they lost on the road their 12th consecutive match to sixth ranked Real Esteli (9-2) 112-66 on Sunday evening. Jeter Reyes fired 25 points for the winners. Bernardo Baldizon produced 20 points for lost side. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. The victory was the sixth consecutive win for Real Esteli. They maintain sixth place with 9-2 record. Nicaragua U16 lost their twelfth game in a row. They still close the standings with 12 games lost. Real Esteli will meet at home league's leader UAM Univ. in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Nicaragua U16 will play against La Trinidad (#10) and hopes to get finally their first victory.

There were no shocking results in the rest of the games of round 13: Mineros won against Tipitapa on the opponent's court 83-78. Americas 2 managed to outperform Pescadores in a home game 79-75. Los Bufalos recorded a loss to La Trinidad on the road 105-98. Sebaco crushed Academia PLAV on its own court 91-59. Frente was smashed by San Isidro in Matagalpa 95-68. UNAN de lost to undefeated Jaguares at home 47-83.




Tipitapa - Mineros 78-83

We cannot really consider it an upset in the game between close teams in Managua where 10th ranked Tipitapa (5-7) was defeated by eleventh ranked Mineros (7-6) 83-78 on Sunday. Mineros forced 22 Tipitapa turnovers and had a 22-11 advantage in offensive rebounds. Jose Mccurbia fired a double-double by scoring 25 points and 11 rebounds for the winners. The former international guard Armando Martinez (190-1988) chipped in 18 points, 8 rebounds, 6 assists and 4 steals. Oscar Ramirez (175) produced 23 points and Alejandro Tenorio added 18 points and 6 rebounds respectively for lost side. Both coaches tested many bench players in such tough game. Mineros moved-up to eighth place. Loser Tipitapa dropped to the twelfth position with seven games lost. Very predictable result in Managua where ninth ranked Americas 2 (6-5) defeated 16th ranked Pescadores (4-10) 79-75 on Sunday. However just four-point win is not that big difference and the fans of host team counted on more convincing victory. Americas 2 forced 32 Pescadores turnovers. Strangely Pescadores outrebounded Americas 2 59-43 including 18 on the offensive glass. Great defensive blocking was one of the keys in this match when Americas 2 made 9 blocks. The former international forward Troy Andrews (196-2000) fired a double-double by scoring 20 points, 19 rebounds and 7 blocks for the winners. Johan Porras chipped in 15 points and 5 rebounds. Americas 2's coach used entire bench in such tough game. Danny Padilla produced a double-double by scoring 18 points, 15 rebounds and 6 assists and Gerson Lampson added 14 points and 13 rebounds respectively for lost side. Four Pescadores players scored in double figures. Americas 2 maintains ninth place with 6-5 record, which they share with La Trinidad.
