Brazil celebrate title in Santiago

Brazil are U17 South American champions. They held their arch-rivals Argentina in the Final on Saturday. Gui Carvalho (197-F-02) produced 27 points, while Marcio Santos (203-F/C-02) added 23 points and 11 rebounds for the champions. Brazil snatched a narrow 44:42 halftime lead. Argentina sank 26 points in the third term to take a 4-point lead heading into the fourth period. But Brazil unleashed 34 points in the final stanza and snatched a one-point win at the end. Franco Mendez (188-SG-02) accounted for 26 points and 8 rebounds for Argentina.

3-4 Place

Ecuador - Uruguay 73-77
Uruguay outgunned Ecuador to step onto the pedestal in Santiago. Agustin Ubal (197-G-03) was unstoppable with 41 points to lead Uruguay to the Bronze medals. Ecuador enjoyed a 26:18 lead after ten minutes. But Uruguay went on a strong 46:33 run in the next two periods to spur ahead. Ecuador held Uruguay to just 13 points in the fourth period but came up short of win at the end. Janer Arcila (04) produced 25 points, 10 assists and 8 rebounds for Ecuador.
