LUB Round 21: Derby game ends with Penarol's defeat of Trouville

The games at this stage are more interesting as they can be crucial for the final standings in Regular Season. Despite we already know who is stronger and who is weaker, there may be still last minute surprises and upsets. Here is the last round review presented by Job Market.

The most exciting game was a derby match between two local teams from Montevideo: Penarol (#8) and Trouville (#6). Trouville was defeated at home 84-92 and even the advantage of their own court did not help. It was a great shooting night for Penarol especially from behind the arc, where they had solid 57.9 percentage. It was a good game for American power forward Lee Roberts (203-1987, college: Findlay, OH) who led his team to a victory with 20 points and 8 rebounds. His fellow American import power forward Charles Thomas (202-1986, college: Arkansas) contributed with 18 points and 5 rebounds for the winners. American forward Dwayne Davis (196-1989, college: Southern Miss) answered with 25 points and 6 assists for Trouville. Trouville's coach Marcelo Signorelli rotated ten players in this game, but that didn't help. Penarol (10-9) moved-up to seventh place. Trouville at the other side dropped to the eighth position with ten games lost. Penarol's supporters look forward to another derby game next round, where their team will face at home their local rival from Montevideo L.Borges.
Another exciting game was again a derby between two teams from Montevideo: Malvin (#8) and Goes (#2). Malvin (11-10) crushed visiting Goes (12-8) by 18 points 109-91. It ended at the same time the three-game winning streak of Goes. American Daniel Hamilton (201-1995, college: UConn) stepped up and scored 43 points (!!!), 9 rebounds and 7 assists (on 14-of-18 shooting from the field) for the winners and Ivan Aska chipped in 19 points and 9 rebounds. The best for the losing side was guard Martin Osimani (194-1981, college: Duquesne, agency: Pro Sports) with 22 points. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Malvin have a solid series of four victories in a row. They moved-up to sixth place. Goes at the other side keep the second position with eight games lost. Malvin's supporters look forward to another derby game next round, where their team will face at home their local rival from Montevideo .

It ended at the same time the two-game winning streak of Aguada. Gary McGhee nailed a double-double by scoring 15 points and 11 rebounds for the winning side. Juan Santiso came up with a double-double by scoring 13 points, 10 rebounds and 7 assists for Aguada in the defeat. Both coaches tested many bench players and allowed the starting five to rest. Nacional moved-up to fifth place. Loser Aguada keeps the third position with nine games lost. Both teams do not play next round, which will be an opportunity for some rest.

In the last two games of round 21 Bigua beat Olimpia on the road 90-81. Urunday lost to Defensor on its own court 73-75.
The most impressive performance of 21th round was 8 points and 12 rebounds by Hatila Passos of Urunday.



Trouville - Penarol 84-92

Olimpia - Bigua 81-90

No shocking result in a game when first ranked Bigua (14-4) beat bottom-ranked Olimpia (5-15) in Montevideo 90-81 on Monday. Bigua looked well-organized offensively handing out 26 assists. American Donald Sims (190-1987, college: App State, agency: Pensack Sports) nailed a double-double by scoring 27 points and 10 assists for the winning side and forward Martin Rojas (195-1998) accounted for 18 points, 7 rebounds and 4 assists. American point guard Marcus Thomas (191-1995, college: Rosemont) came up with 21 points and 8 rebounds and naturalized Spanish center Esteban Batista (206-1983) added 11 points, 13 rebounds and 5 assists respectively for Olimpia in the defeat. Five Bigua and four Olimpia players scored in double figures. Defending champion maintains first place with 14-4 record. Olimpia lost sixth consecutive game. They stay at the bottom position with 15 games lost. Both teams do not play next round, which will be an opportunity for some rest.

Another exciting game was again a derby between two teams from Montevideo: Malvin (#8) and Goes (#2). Malvin (11-10) crushed visiting Goes (12-8) by 18 points 109-91. It ended at the same time the three-game winning streak of Goes. They outrebounded Goes 36-23 including a 31-20 advantage in defensive rebounds. Malvin shot the lights out from three nailing 15 long-distance shots on high 60.0 percentage. Goes were plagued by 24 personal fouls down the stretch. American center Gary McGhee (210-1988, college: Pittsburgh, agency: Inception Sports) nailed a double-double by scoring 15 points and 11 rebounds for the winning side and Federico Pereiras (190-1994) accounted for 17 points. Five Nacional players scored in double figures. Point guard Juan Santiso (185-1994) came up with a double-double by scoring 13 points, 10 rebounds and 7 assists and Dominican center Eloy Vargas (211-1988, college: Kentucky, agency: BIG) added 8 points and 9 rebounds respectively for Aguada in the defeat. Both coaches tested many bench players and allowed the starting five to rest. Nacional moved-up to fifth place. Loser Aguada keeps the third position with nine games lost. Rather expected game when 12th ranked Urunday (7-13) was edged by tenth ranked Defensor (9-11) in Montevideo 75-73 on Tuesday. Defensor forced 21 Urunday turnovers. American-Jamaican Quintrell Thomas (203-1990, college: UNLV) nailed a double-double by scoring 16 points and 13 rebounds for the winning side and American-Haitian forward Wes Alcegaire (198-1994, college: BGSU) accounted for 20 points. Four Defensor players scored in double figures. Guard Abel Agarbado (179-1993) came up with 8 points, 6 rebounds and 10 assists and American-Nigerian swingman Tanksley Efianayi (198-1994, college: UCF) added 17 points and 5 rebounds respectively for Urunday in the defeat. Urunday's coach Hector Da Pra let to play ten players, but that didn't help to avoid defeat in this game. Defensor moved-up to ninth place. Urunday lost third consecutive game. They keep the twelfth position with 13 games lost. Defensor will meet at home Urupan (#10) in the next round. Urunday's supporters look forward to an exciting derby game next round, where their team will travel locally in Montevideo to the arena Goes.
