Superliga Cup Round 12: Heroes edge Trotamundos by two points

Here is the last round review presented by LBM Management.

The most exciting game of round 12 in the Cup took place in Caracas. This derby game ended with only two-point defeat on the road of higher ranked Trotamundos (4-6) to seventh ranked Heroes (3-7) 99-97 on Monday evening. Heroes dominated down low during the game scoring 54 of its points in the paint compared to Trotamundos' 32. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 26 assists. 29 personal fouls committed by Trotamundos helped opponents get some easy free throw opportunities. The best player for the winners was swingman Kevin Nino (195-91) who scored 30 points. Guard Douglas Rondon (175-95) chipped in 9 points, 8 rebounds and 10 assists. At the other side the best for losing team was American point guard Keron DeShields (190-92, college: Tennessee St., agency: BIG) who recorded 23 points, 5 rebounds and 5 assists. Both coaches used bench players in such tough game. Heroes have a solid three-game winning streak. They moved-up to sixth place, which they share with Taurinos. Defending champion Trotamundos keep the third position with six games lost. They share it with Diablos and Broncos. Heroes is looking forward to face Taurinos (#6) in La Asuncion in the next round. Trotamundos will play at home against Llaneros and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
Another interesting game was a derby match between two teams from Caracas: Gladiadores (#2) and Broncos (#3). Gladiadores (7-2) won against visiting Broncos (4-6) 66-62. It was a good game for the former international forward Jhon Romero (199-85) who led his team to a victory with 8 points and 8 rebounds. Tony Mitchell contributed with 8 points and 8 rebounds for the winners. Swingman Morris Sierralta (190-87) replied with 13 points for Broncos. Both coaches tested many bench players in such tough game. Gladiadores maintains second position with 7-2 record behind leader Spartans. Broncos at the other side keep the third place with six games lost. They share the position with Trotamundos and Diablos.

Llaneros were smashed at home by 17 points 65-82 and even the fact of playing on their own court did not help. Worth to mention a great performance of Windi Graterol who helped to win the game recording a double-double by scoring 16 points and 12 rebounds. The best for the losing side was Carlos Rodriguez with 5 points and 9 rebounds. Llaneros' coach rotated twelve players seeing no chance for a win. Spartans have a solid three-game winning streak. They maintain first position with 10-1 record. Loser Llaneros keep the fifth place with six games lost. They share the position with Cangrejeros. Spartans will have a break next round, and it should allow them to practice more before next game. Llaneros will play against Trotamundos (#3) in La Asuncion and it may be a tough game between close rivals.

Rest of the games of round 12 were quite predictable and ended without any surprises. Here they are:
Gladiadores were defeated by Supersonicos in Margarita 84-80. Taurinos were beaten by Spartans at home 69-74. Taurinos lost to Cocodrilos on the opponent's court 77-93.
The best stats of 12th round was 22 points and 9 rebounds by Jovanni Diaz of Cocodrilos.

Supersonicos - Gladiadores 84-80

There was a minor upset in Margarita where second-best Gladiadores (7-2) were defeated by fourth ranked Supersonicos (4-5) 84-80 on Sunday. Worth to mention a great performance of the former international forward Tulio Cobos (197-86, college: Northeastern St.) who helped to win the game recording a double-double by scoring 23 points and 10 rebounds and American Jaelyn Johnson-Coston (198-93, college: FMU) who added 18 points and 4 assists during the contest. The best for the losing side was international swingman Raymond Rada (194-97) with 24 points and 7 rebounds and international swingman Jose Materan (196-96) scored 15 points, 7 rebounds and 5 assists. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Gladiadores' coach rotated ten players in this game, but that didn't help. Supersonicos moved-up to third place. Loser Gladiadores keep the second position with two games lost. Supersonicos will meet league's leader Guaiqueries in the next round and it will be for sure the game of the week. Gladiadores will have a break next round.

No shocking result in a game in La Asuncion where first ranked Spartans (10-1) defeated 5th ranked Taurinos (3-7) 74-69 on Sunday. Spartans made 22-of-28 free shots (78.6 percent) during the game. They also forced 20 Taurinos turnovers. Worth to mention a great performance of the former international forward Lenin Lopez (198-91) who helped to win the game recording 11 points, 9 rebounds and 4 assists and international swingman Pedro Chourio (186-90) who added 9 points and 4 assists during the contest. The best for the losing side was Gregory Curvelo (195-90) with a double-double by scoring 19 points and 10 rebounds and forward Jesus Rodriguez (200-93) scored 14 points. Both coaches allowed to play bench players in such tough game. Spartans have a solid three-game winning streak. They maintain first position with 10-1 record. Taurinos lost third consecutive game. They dropped to the sixth place with seven games lost. They share the position with Heroes. Spartans will have a break next round, and it should allow them to practice more before next game. Taurinos will play against Heroes (#7) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.

Rather expected game in Caracas where 5th ranked Taurinos (3-7) were defeated by second ranked Cocodrilos (8-2) 93-77 on Monday. Cocodrilos outrebounded Taurinos 43-28 including a 31-16 advantage in defensive rebounds. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 24 assists comparing to just 11 passes made by Taurinos' players. Worth to mention a great performance of forward Jovanni Diaz (203-90) who helped to win the game recording 22 points and 9 rebounds (on 8-of-10 shooting from the field) and the former international forward Luis Bethelmy (200-86) who added 13 points, 11 rebounds and 6 assists during the contest. Four Cocodrilos players scored in double figures. The best for the losing side was Gregory Curvelo (195-90) with 22 points and 8 rebounds and American point guard Brandon Scott (180-95, college: USAO) scored 14 points. Both coaches allowed to play bench players saving starting five for next games. Cocodrilos maintains second position with 8-2 record having just two point less than leader Spartans. Taurinos lost third consecutive game. They dropped to the sixth place with seven games lost. They share the position with Heroes. Cocodrilos' supporters look forward to an exciting derby game next round, where their team will travel locally in Caracas to the arena Diablos.
