Gigantes - Marinos 82-86 The game between third ranked Gigantes (3-2) and fifth ranked Marinos (2-4) was the most important one in the last round on Monday night. Gigantes were defeated by Marinos in a tough game in Puerto Ordaz 82-86. Marinos made 23-of-28 free shots (82.1 percent) during the game, while Gigantes only scored six points from the stripe. The best player for the winners was American center Ronald Delph (213-1993, college: FAU) who had a double-double by scoring 15 points and 14 rebounds. Greek swingman Kostas Vasileiadis (200-1984) chipped in 26 points. American center Jarred Shaw (208-1990, college: Utah St.) produced a double-double by scoring 20 points and 12 rebounds and swingman Luis Duarte (190-1994) added 15 points and 7 rebounds respectively for the hosts. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Both coaches used bench players in such tough game. Marinos moved-up to fourth place. Gigantes at the other side dropped to the second position with two games lost. They share it with Heroes. Marinos are looking forward to face league's leader Gladiadores in Caracas in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Gigantes will play at home against Cangrejeros and are hoping to win this game. Third ranked Heroes faced their close opponent Piratas. Host Heroes (3-2) defeated guests from La Guaira (3-5) 77-71. Heroes outrebounded Piratas 42-28 including a 34-23 advantage in defensive rebounds. American guard Davion Berry (193-1991, college: Weber St.) orchestrated the victory by scoring 22 points and 7 rebounds. Swingman Kevin Nino (195-1991) contributed with 17 points for the winners. Four Heroes players scored in double figures. American Tamyrik Fields (198-1996, college: Augusta, agency: Interperformances) answered with 18 points and the former international forward Elder Gimenez (186-1991) added 14 points and 7 rebounds in the effort for Piratas. Both coaches tested many bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Heroes moved-up to second place, which they share with Gigantes. Newly promoted Piratas dropped to the fourth position with five games lost. Llaneros made 25-of-33 free shots (75.8 percent) during the game. It was a great evening for international point guard Arian Amundaray (192-2000) who led his team to a victory scoring 15 points. American point guard Marcus Thomas (191-1995, college: Rosemont) helped adding 12 points and 4 assists. Cuban power forward Marlon Diaz (200-1998) responded with 15 points, 7 rebounds and 4 assists and Cuban swingman Neysser Coutin (192-1996) scored 14 points and 7 rebounds. Both coaches allowed to play bench players saving starting five for next games. Llaneros maintains third place with 4-5 record having just five point less than leader Centauros which they share with defeated Guaros. Loser Guaros dropped to the third position with five games lost. They share it with Spartans. Llaneros will meet Toros (#5) in the next round. Guaros will have a break next round. It was a great evening for Argentinian point guard Leandro Vildoza (180-1994) who led his team to a victory scoring 18 points, 6 rebounds and 9 assists. American-Nigerian swingman Tanksley Efianayi (198-1994, college: UCF) helped adding 19 points and 6 rebounds. International guard Yohanner Sifontes (192-1995) responded with 24 points, 8 rebounds and 7 assists and American Lagerald Vick (196-1997, college: Kansas) scored 16 points and 7 rebounds. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Spartans' coach Jorge Arrieta rotated eleven players in this game, but that didn't help. Supersonicos moved-up to second place, which they share with Gaiteros. Loser Spartans dropped to the third position with five games lost. They share it with Guaros. It was a great evening for international center Nestor Colmenares (200-1987, college: Campbellsville, agency: Pro Sports) who led his team to a victory scoring 16 points and 7 rebounds. American forward Dwayne Davis (196-1989, college: Southern Miss) helped adding 18 points and 4 assists. Four Trotamundos players scored in double figures. American guard Hameed Ali (188-1993, college: TAMUCC) responded with 19 points and 5 assists and the former international power forward Fernando Fuenmayor (201-2000) scored 16 points and 6 rebounds. Both coaches allowed to play bench players in such tough game. Trotamundos have an impressive series of seven victories in a row. Defending champion maintains first place with 7-0 record. Brillantes lost third consecutive game. They keep the third position with four games lost. Both teams do not play next round, which will be an opportunity for some rest.
