SPB Round 7: Broncos are new leaders

It's still too early stage of the Regular Season in SPB, but even now we can clearly see the difference between stronger teams and outsiders. Here is the last round review presented by Job Market.

The game had a very big importance for second-ranked Broncos as it allowed them to take a leadership position. Broncos smashed 4th placed Llaneros in Caracas 85-64. Broncos made 18-of-22 free shots (81.8 percent) during the game. They also forced 19 Llaneros turnovers. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 28 assists. American swingman Jordan Williams (198-1992, college: N.Texas) fired 22 points and 5 assists for the winners. His fellow American import Erik McCree (202-1993, college: Louisiana Tech, agency: Pensack Sports) chipped in 22 points and 7 rebounds (on 7-of-9 shooting from the field). Dominican point guard Yerri Flores (188-1996, college: High School) produced a double-double by scoring 13 points and 11 assists for lost side. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. As mentioned above they are at the top of the standings, which they share with 3 other teams. Llaneros lost fourth consecutive game. They dropped to the fifth place with six games lost. They share the position with Cangrejeros. Llaneros will have a break next week, which should allow them to rest in order to get back on the winning path. Broncos will try to continue on its current victory against third ranked Taurinos in La Asuncion.
The most crucial game of the last round was the first loss of undefeated Cocodrilos (6-1) in Caracas. Hosts were defeated by Gladiadores (6-1) 77-69. It ended at the same time the six-game winning streak of Cocodrilos. It was a key game for the top position in the league. Worth to mention a great performance of American Jordan Adams (196-1994, college: UCLA) who helped to win the game recording 22 points and 7 rebounds (on 9-of-11 shooting from the field). Gregory Vargas contributed with 14 points and 6 assists (made all of his nine free throws !!!) for the winners. Dominican Luis Montero (203-1993, college: South Plains) answered with 16 points, 7 rebounds and 4 assists for Cocodrilos. Cocodrilos' coach Gonzalo Garcia rotated eleven players in this game, but that didn't help. Gladiadores have a solid series of four victories in a row. They keep a position of league leader, which they share with defeated Cocodrilos. Gladiadores will have a break next round, and it should allow them to practice more before next game. Cocodrilos' supporters look forward to an exciting derby game next round, where their team will travel locally in Caracas to the arena Spartans.
A very close game took place in Caracas between Brillantes and Heroes. First ranked Brillantes (5-2) got a very close home victory over 5th ranked Heroes (3-4). Brillantes managed to escape with a 2-point win 78-76 on Sunday evening. It was a great evening for Miguel Marriaga who led his team to a victory with a double-double by scoring 17 points, 11 rebounds and 5 blocks. At the losing side Luis Almanza responded with a double-double by scoring 15 points and 10 rebounds. Both coaches used bench players in such tough game. Brillantes maintains first place with 5-2 record, which they share with 3 other teams. Heroes at the other side dropped to the third position with four games lost. They share it with Gigantes and Centauros. Brillantes will meet at home Toros (#4) in the next round. Heroes will have a break next round.

Other games of round 7 were quite predictable and ended without any surprises. Here they are:
Trotamundos crushed Toros in La Asuncion 82-63. Panteras were beaten by Gladiadores at home 62-68. Gigantes won against Cangrejeros on the opponent's court 84-71. Cangrejeros unfortunately lost to Gigantes in a home game 79-81. Guaros managed to beat Centauros on the road 80-65. Piratas defeated Diablos on its own court 103-86.
The best stats of 7th round was 17 points and 6 rebounds by Qyidar Davis of Piratas.



Toros - Trotamundos 63-82

There was no surprise in Maracay where 4th placed Toros (1-5) were crushed by second ranked Trotamundos (5-2) 82-63 on Saturday. Trotamundos looked well-organized offensively handing out 23 assists comparing to just 5 passes made by Toros' players. It was a great evening for the former international swingman Jhornan Zamora (196-1989) who led his team to a victory scoring 23 points and 5 rebounds. Point guard Angel Blanco (179-1997) helped adding 15 points and 5 assists. At the losing side Dominican Braynt De La Cruz (195) responded with a double-double by scoring 17 points and 14 rebounds and power forward Brian Guidi (200-1991) produced a double-double by scoring 11 points and 12 rebounds. Four Toros players scored in double figures. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Defending champion keeps a position of league leader, which they share with 3 other teams. Toros lost fifth consecutive game. They keep the fourth place with five games lost. They share the position with Diablos. Trotamundos' supporters look forward to an exciting derby game next round, where their team will travel locally in La Asuncion to the arena .

The game between closely ranked teams ended with second ranked Gladiadores' (6-1) road victory over 3rd placed Panteras (3-5) 68-62 on Saturday. It was a great evening for international point guard Gregory Vargas (181-1986, agency: Pro Sports) who led his team to a victory scoring 20 points, 6 rebounds and 5 assists. American swingman Henry Walker (198-1987, college: Kansas St.) helped adding 14 points, 5 rebounds and 5 assists. Four Gladiadores players scored in double figures. Rather expected game in Maturin where 5th ranked Cangrejeros (1-6) were defeated by third ranked Gigantes (3-4) 84-71 on Saturday. It was a great evening for American-Mexican forward Aaron Fuller (198-1989, college: USC, agency: Haylett Sports) who led his team to a victory with a double-double by scoring 22 points and 15 rebounds. The former international Jose Bracho (190-1998) helped adding 13 points. At the losing side Dominican swingman Luis Feliz (190-2002) responded with 19 points and Dominican forward Rich Polanco (203-1997, college: S.Dakota) scored 9 points and 6 rebounds. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Gigantes maintains third place with 3-4 record having just two points less than leader Piratas, which they share with Heroes and Centauros. Cangrejeros lost sixth consecutive game. They keep the fifth position with six games lost. They share it with Llaneros. Both teams do not play next round, which will be an opportunity for some rest.

They shot the lights out from three sinking 12 long-distance shots on high 57.1 percentage. It was a great evening for the former international point guard Heissler Guillent (186-1986) who led his team to a victory scoring 20 points, 5 rebounds and 7 assists (on 8-of-9 shooting from the field). American-Rwandan center Prince Ibeh (208-1994, college: Texas) helped adding 12 points and 11 rebounds. Four Guaros players scored in double figures. Four Piratas and five Diablos players scored in double figures. Both coaches tested many bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Piratas have an impressive series of six victories in a row. They keep a position of league leader. Diablos lost third consecutive game. They keep the fourth place with five games lost.
