Monday night the rematch of the rival clubs Regatas Lima and Universidad de Lima / Real Club de Lima took place. In the first match between these two teams back in May, Universidad de Lima / Real Club de Lima came out with a 10 point win and took control of the 1st place spot concluding the first stage of the season. Last night Regatas Lima was determined to 'even the score'. After a game winning shot attempt from 30 feet by Tim Nelson (186-G-86, agency: Interperformances, college: Oklahoma S&A) didnt fall, the game was sent to an overtime period where Regatas Lima took control, attacking the basket and hitting almost every shot they threw up. Nelson's 30 points and 5 assists (24 points in the 2nd half) was not enough to hold off the racing Regatas Lima team this game. The final score was 89-87 and the series between these two clubs is now tied.

NORWALK, Conn. For most of his career, people told Norwalks William Schwartzstein (206-F/C-84, college: Emory & Henry) that he could not and would not have a career in professional basketball. Now, he has a pro contract, a dream fulfilled and the knowledge that his convictions were right all along.

Schwartzstein, a 2002 graduate of Norwalk High School, signed in late March to play with a professional team in Peru. The player who was told time and again he couldnt and wouldnt finally did.
I definitely had many doubts that this day would ever come, Schwartzstein wrote in an email. Over the course of my playing career I have experienced more negativity than positive remarks."
A high school coach once told him that he wouldn't play after high school. Friends and family said his dream was unrealistic.
"I even doubted myself plenty of times," Schwartzstein said. Playing is what makes him happy, though, he said, and kept him going.
I'm also the type of person who likes to prove others wrong, he said.
After playing at Norwalk, Schwartzstein went on to a solid career at Emory & Henry College in Virginia. The 6-foot, 10-inch center set the career record for blocked shots, and was twice near the top of the schools list for most blocks in a single season. After college, he became a personal trainer, coached and even took time off from the game.
In 2011, he joined a semipro team in Washington, D.C. The Metropolitan All-Stars played in the Eastern Basketball Alliance, and finished second last year.
The team organized a tour of Peru this winter with the goal of getting players professional deals. Schwartzstein's luck came through - he was picked up by the Inmaculada Lobos of the Liga de Lima.
While Schwartzstein had many doubters, a few believed in him.
Sherwood Taylor, his AAU coach in Norwalk, was among Schwartzsteins biggest supporters. "He helped instill a work ethic to be great and accept nothing less," Schwartzstein said.
"He also taught me there's more to life than basketball and that I could use the sport to open many doors in my life, and he was right, he said.
Bob Johnson, his former coach at Emory & Henry, also kept Schwartzsteins fire lit. Teammates and staff with his team in D.C. also provided support. The encouragement of a few overrode the doubts of many.
I don't know what I would be doing if people like these mentioned had not been a part of my life, Schwartzstein said. Courtesy of: http://norwalk.dailyvoice.com
