LDD Round 9 of Regular Season

The most exciting game of round 9 in the LDD took place in Corrientes. This derby game ended with only two-point home defeat of higher ranked Regatas (7-4) to fourteenth ranked Penarol (4-7) 83-81 on Tuesday evening. It was a good game for guard Facundo Cabrera (185-1) who led his team to a victory with 20 points, 6 rebounds and 5 assists. Swingman Lucas Gorosterrazu (197-98, agency: BIG) contributed with 15 points and 14 rebounds for the winners. point guard Tobias Franchela (185-1) answered with 19 points, 9 rebounds and 5 assists for Regatas. Penarol maintains fourteenth place with 4-7 record. Regatas at the other side keeps the eighth position with four games lost. Penarol are looking forward to face league's leader Comunicaciones in Mercedes in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Regatas will play at home against H.Americano (#18) and is hoping to win this game.
Seventeenth-ranked Gimnasia CR (2-9) was very close to win a game against eighth ranked Regatas (7-4) in Corrientes. Regatas managed to secure only two-point victory 91-89. However their fans expected much easier game. Point guard Tobias Franchela (185-1) stepped up and scored 21 points, 9 rebounds and 4 assists (went 8 for 8 at the free throw line) for the winners and Juan Scacchi chipped in 18 points, 8 rebounds, 6 assists and 8 blocks. Regatas' coach allowed to play the deep bench players in such tough game. The best for the losing side was center Leandro Fogel (201-0) with 24 points. Regatas maintains eighth place with 7-4 record. Gimnasia CR lost fifth consecutive game. They keep the seventeenth position with nine games lost. Regatas will play against H.Americano (#18) in Rio Gallegos in the next round and are hoping to win another game. Gimnasia CR will play on the road against San Martin in Corrientes and hopes to get back on the winning track.
A very close game took place in Almagra between Riachuelo LR and San Lorenzo. Seventh ranked Riachuelo LR (7-3) got a very close victory on the road over 9th ranked San Lorenzo (5-5). Riachuelo LR managed to escape with a 3-point win 81-78 on Wednesday evening. Yoel Cuenca nailed 27 points and 9 steals for the winning side. Martin Sesarego came up with a double-double by scoring 16 points and 11 rebounds for San Lorenzo in the defeat. San Lorenzo's coach rotated ten players in this game, but that didn't help. Riachuelo LR have a solid series of four victories in a row. They maintain seventh place with 7-3 record. San Lorenzo lost third consecutive game. They dropped to the tenth position with five games lost. Riachuelo LR will have a break next round, and it should allow them to practice more before next game. San Lorenzo will play against Union (#5) and hope to secure a win.

There were no big surprises in other games of round 9: Riachuelo LR smashed Gimnasia on the road 92-62. La Union won against Olimpico on its own court 76-66. Argentino unfortunately lost to Atenas in Cordoba 81-92. Instituto managed to beat Platense at home 99-92. H.Americano was crushed by Ferro on the opponent's court 54-83. San Martin beat Penarol in a home game 87-79. Platense was destroyed by Atenas on the road 95-72. Union managed to outperform Platense on its own court 69-62.
The most impressive performance of 9th round was 16 points and 9 rebounds by Matias Reynoso of Union.

Gimnasia - Riachuelo LR 62-92

No shocking result in a game when seventh ranked Riachuelo LR (7-3) crushed 17th ranked Gimnasia CR (2-9) in Comodoro Rivadavia 92-62 on Monday. Riachuelo LR dominated down low during the game scoring 66 of its points in the paint compared to Gimnasia CR's 26. They outrebounded Gimnasia CR 49-34 including a 42-25 advantage in defensive rebounds. Riachuelo LR looked well-organized offensively handing out 21 assists. Great defensive blocking was one of the keys in this match when Riachuelo LR made 7 blocks. Forward Lucas Gallardo (199-1) nailed a double-double by scoring 24 points and 14 rebounds for the winning side and Mateo Corso accounted for 16 points and 11 rebounds. Guard Franco Ferraria (191-2) came up with 16 points, 9 rebounds and 4 assists and Uruguayan point guard Nicolas Lucchini (188-3) added 16 points and 4 assists respectively for Gimnasia CR in the defeat. Very expected game when 20th ranked Olimpico (1-10) lost to thirteenth ranked La Union (4-4) in Formosa 66-76 on Tuesday.
