Mexico thump Panama at the start of 2022 Central American Championship

Mexico got to the winning start of the 2022 COCABA Championship in Chihuahua City. They stormed past Panama in the opener. Seven players scored in double digits to pace the winners. Sofia Payan (167-SF-2000) came up with 19 points and 7 assists for the hosts.
Mexico eked out a 22-17 lead after ten minutes. The hosts unleashed 39 points in the second term to take a comfortable 32-point halftime lead. Mexico held their opponents to just 12 points in the second half and eased to the victory. Mariana Valenzuela (188-F-2003) and Gladys Avila tossed in 16 points each for the winners. Ashley Reid (165-G-1998, college: Wichita St.) answered with 14 points for Panama.
