USA celebrate the title in Bahia Blanca - Jun 15, 2015

USA - Canada 77-60
USA celebrated the FIBA Americas Championship title. They edged Canada in the championship game in Bahia Blanca. The victory marked the third straigth title for Team USA. Jarred Vanderbilt (203-F/C-99) tallied 19 points and 10 rebounds to pace the champions. Canada got to a terrific start. They held Team USA to just 3 points in the first ten minutes to open a 16-point lead. But the USA slowly improved their performance. They dropped 46 points in the next two quarters to pill within 2 points 49:51. Team USA then followed with a stunning 28:9 run in the fourth quarter to capture the trophy. Gary Trent (191-G/F) provided 19 points, while Wendell Carter (206-C-99) added 11 points and 10 boards for the winners. Simisola Shittu (205-G/F-00) responded with 18 points and 14 rebounds for Canada. Rowan Barrett Jr. (195-G/F-99) netted 13 points in the loss.

3-4 Place
Argentina - Dominican Republic 74-59
Argentina celebrated the Bronze medals at the U16 FIBA Americas Championship. They knocked down Dominican Republic in the consolation final. Lautaro Lopez (188-G-99) and Franco Baralle (177-PG-99) stepped up with 15 points each to pace the hosts. Dominican Republic eked out a 20:18 lead after the opening quarter. Argentina cut the deficit to a single point at the interval 34:35. But the hosts picked up the defensive aggressivness in the second half. They held Dominican Republic to 24 points in the second part of the game and rallied to the win. Jonathan Basualdo and Valentin Bettiga had 14 points each for Argentina. Alanzo Frink (200-F-00) responded with 26 points and 8 rebounds for Dominican Republic.

5-6 Place
Puerto Rico - Brazil 43-62
Brazil earned the second straight victory in Bahia Blanca. They bruised Puerto Rico to earn the fifth overall position at the FIBA Americas Championship. Kayo Mafio (198-PF-99) finished with 19 points and 14 rebounds for the winners. The teams traded baskets throughout the opening quarter. Brazil surged ahead in the second frame. They secured a 28:21 halftime lead. Brazil boosted the margin in the third frame. They accumulated a 15-point buffer heading into the fourth period. Brazil held their opponents to just 9 points in the final frame and sealed the win. Guilherme Braga (195-SF-99) accounted for 11 points and 9 rebounds for the winners. Javier Quinonez (187-G-00) answered with 16 points for Puerto Rico.

7-8 Place
Venezuela - Mexico 80-71
Venezuela beat Mexico to finish 7th in Bahia Blanca. Luis Mora (188-G-99) stepped up with 17 points and 7 rebounds for Venezuela. Venezuela grabbed a 13:6 lead ten minutes into the encounter. Mexico cut the deficit at 2-point mark at the interval 26:28. But Venezuela unleashed 52 points in the second half and raced to the victory. Carlos Lenuz (187-G-99) delivered 16 points and 9 rebounds for the winning side. Alonso Landin (187-SF-99) replied with 15 points for Mexico.


Canada and USA to clash for title in Bahia Blanca - Jun 14, 2015

SEMIFINALS
USA - Argentina 119-76
Team USA claimed the fourth consecutive victory at the FIBA Americas tournament. They rallied past Argentina to book their Final appearance. Seven players scored in double digits for the winners. Markus Howard (185-G-99) and Jordan Brown (206-C-99) delivered 16 points each for the USA. The North American team erupted for 70 points in the first half to gain a massive 34-point lead. They did not slow down after the big break cruising to the victory. Gary Trent chipped in 15 points in the win. Agustin Perez (187-G-99) responded with 20 points for Argentina. Lautaro Lopez (188-G-99) and Nicolas Franco (204-F/C-0) chipped in 12 points each in the loss.

Canada - Dominican Republic 95-49
Canada advanced into the title clash in Bahia Blanca. They recorded the fourth straight victory at the tournament beating Dominican Republic in the semis. Rowan Barrett Jr. (195-G/F-99) tossed in 17 points to pace the North American team. Canada exploded with 45 points in the first half to ensure an 18-point advantage. Canada added 50 points more in the second half to ease to the victory. Noah Kirkwood (195-G/F-0) had 13 points, while Simisola Shittu (205-G/F-0) contributed 11 points and 12 rebounds in the win. Alanzo Frink (200-F-0) answered with 15 points for Dominican Republic.

5-8 Place
Mexico - Brazil 69-80
Brazil posted the first victory at the FIBA Americas tournament. They rolled over Mexico in the classification round. Brazil will now take on Puerto Rico for the fifth overall position. Marcos Louzada (185-SG-0) stepped up with 19 points and 6 rebounds to pace the winning side. Mexico snatched a 16:14 lead ten minutes into the game. But Brazil quickly erased the deficit and posted a 48:45 lead heading into the fourth frame. Brazil went for 32 points in the final quarter and sealed the win. Pedro Barros (185-PG-1) accounted for 16 points and 13 rebounds for Brazil. Salvador Martinez (193-SF-99) answered with 18 points for Mexico. Alexis Martinez (193-SG-99) had 12 points and 7 rebounds in the loss.

Puerto Rico - Venezuela 81-70
Puerto Rico beat Venezuela in the classification round. Eric Ayala (193-F/G-99) nailed 29 points, grabbed 9 rebounds and issued 6 assists to pace the winners. Puerto Rico piled up a 21:18 lead after the opening quarter. Venezuela erased the deficit and pulled ahead for a 34:33 halftime lead. They dropped 27 points in the third quarter to secure a 6-point advantage at the final intermission. But Puerto Rico responded with a 26:9 run in the fourth quarter to snatch victory. Fabian Rial (190-G-99) delivered 15 points for the winners. Carlos Lenuz (187-G-99) answered with 17 points and 6 rebounds for Venezuela.

USA - Brazil 123-83
Team USA stayed untamed at the FIBA Americas tournament. They cruised past Brazil to clinch the top position in Group A. Wendell Carter (206-C-99) came up with 21 points and 11 rebounds to lead the winners. Team USA erupted for 36 points in the second frame to gain a 63:32 halftime lead. They never looked back afterwards cruising to the victory. Kevin Knox II (201-F-99) finished with 16 points, while Jalen Hill and Jordan Brown (206-C-99) added 14 points each for Team USA. Danilo Araujo (194-SG-99) responded with 24 points for Brazil. Yago Dos Santos (175-PG-99) had 12 points in the losing case.

Dominican Republic - Puerto Rico 71-66
Dominican Republic clinched a decisive victory over Puerto Rico and made it into the semifinal stage. Alanzo Frink (200-F-0) stepped up with 16 points to pace Dominican Republic to the second victory in Group A. They grabbed a 19:15 lead ten minutes into the game. Puerto Rico lived up to the challenge denying the deficit in the second period. They accounted for a 32:31 halftime advantage. But Dominican Republic stepped on the gas in the second half. They dropped 40 points after the big break and ensured a key victory. Miguel Diaz (192-G/F-99) finished with 13 points for the winners. Eric Ayala (193-F/G-99) responded with 22 points and 9 rebounds for Puerto Rico. Jose Placer (185-G-0) chipped in 20 points in the loss.

Group B
Argentina - Canada 62-76
Canada registered the third consecutive victory in Bahia Blanca. They upset hosting Argentina to enter the semifinal stage undefeated. Simisola Shittu (205-G/F-0) paced well-balanced effort with 15 points and 8 rebounds. Canada got to a strong start. They rallied to a 25:16 advantage after ten minutes. Argentina narrowed the distance at 3-point mark at the interval 33:36. But Canada held Argentina to 29 points after the big break and marched to the victory. Danilo Djuricic (200-F-99) and Ignas Brazdeikis (198-G/F-99) posted 13 points each for Canada. Lautaro Lopez (188-G-99) responded with 23 points, 7 rebounds and 4 assists for Argentina.

Mexico - Venezuela 88-70
Mexico earned the opening victory in Bahia Blanca. They toppled Venezuela for 1-2 record in Group B. Salvador Martinez (193-SF-99) delivered 15 points to lead the winners. Mexico established a 41:31 halftime lead. Mexico unleashed 35 points in the third quarter to open a 23-point lead. They never looked back cruising to the victory in the fourth quarter. Diego Willis (192-PG-99) accounted for 13 points, 7 assists and 6 steals, while Jorge De La Serna (200-PF-0) and Alonso Landin (187-SF-99) added 11 points apiece for Mexico. Gabriel Pino (194-F/G-99) and Carlos Lenuz (187-G-99) responded with 15 points each for Venezuela.

Puerto Rico opened win count at the FIBA Americas Championship. They beat Brazil for 1-1 record in Group A. Eric Ayala (193-F/G-99) came up with 24 points and 8 rebounds to pace the winners. Puerto Rico eked out a 17:16 lead after ten minutes. Brazil however responded with a 20:13 run to take a 36:30 halftime advantage. Puerto Rico came off the dressing room firing from all guns. They sparked a 26:9 rally to surge ahead. Brazil dropped 30 points in the final period but could not avoid the defeat. Javier Quinonez (187-G-0) tossed in 12 points, while John Carrillo (187-G-99) and Elmer Natal (195-F/G-0) added 10 points each for Puerto Rico. Kayo Mafio (198-PF-99) responded with 27 points and 10 rebounds for Brazil. Guilherme Braga (195-SF-99) contributed 17 points in the loss.

Dominican Republic - USA 51-115
Team USA cruised to the second victory in Bahia Blanca. The defending champions outgunned Dominican Republic to stay perfect in Group A. Gary Trent (191-G/F) stepped up with 25 points to pace the winners. Team USA unloaded 68 points in the first half to gain a 46-point halftime lead. They kept Dominican Republic at bay throughout the second half coasting to the victory. Markus Howard (185-G-99) delivered 20 points for the winners. Anderson Mirambeaux (196-F-99) responded with 13 points and 9 rebounds for Dominican Republic. Alanzo Frink (200-F-0) had 11 points in the loss.

Group B
Venezuela - Argentina 51-71
Argentina dominated Venezuela on the second day of action in Group B. The hosts went on a strong rally in the second half to secure the second consecutive victory at the tournament. Lautaro Lopez (188-G-99) accounted for 19 points for Argentina. The hosts jumped to a 15:4 lead ten minutes into the encounter. But Venezuela narrowed the distance at 3-point mark at the interval 22:25. Argentina responded with a 23:12 rally in the third term to regain a comfortable advantage. They added 23 points in the fourth quarter to ice the win. Franco Zandomeni (188-G-0) chipped in 17 points for the hosts. Carlos Lenuz (187-G-99) answered with 11 points for Venezuela. Canada - Mexico 101-64

They used a 20:7 run in the opening quarter to clear off. Canada dropped 24 points in the second stanza to take a 44:30 halftime advantage. The third term turned into a one-way traffic. Canada went on a 29:10 spurt to clear off for good. Noah Kirkwood (195-G/F-0) delivered 15 points, while Danilo Djuricic (200-F-99) added 14 points and 15 boards for the winners. Salvador Martinez (193-SF-99) responded with 27 points for Mexico. Javier Gonzalez (194-C-0) had 12 points in the loss.

They boosted the gap at 10-point mark at the final intermission. Brazil narrowed the distance in the fourth frame but could not avoid the defeat. Miguel Diaz (192-G/F-99) netted 12 points and grabbed 12 boards for the winners. Yago Dos Santos (175-PG) answered with 15 points, 6 rebounds and 5 assists for Brazil. Kayo Mafio (198-PF) chipped in 10 points in the loss.

USA - Puerto Rico 105-54
Team USA cruised past Puerto Rico in the opening game of the championship for both sides. Markus Howard (185-G-99) stepped up with 19 points to lead the winners. Team USA dominated from start to finish. They built a 54:29 halftime advantage. Team USA controlled the tempo in the second half and raced to the win. Kevin Knox II (201-F-99) and Wendell Carter (206-C-99) produced 15 points each for the Team USA. Eric Ayala (193-F/G-99) responded with 17 points for Puerto Rico. Fabian Rial (190-G-99) had 13 points in the loss.

Argentina - Mexico 85-70
Jonatan Basualdo (197-F-99) and Lautaro Lopez (188-G-99) scored 20 points each to pace Argentina past Mexico in the opener in Group B. The hosts jumped to a 23:17 lead after the opening quarter. They boosted the gap in the second term. Argentina built a 42:28 halftime lead. Mexico narrowed the distance in the third term. The visitors pulled within 5 points at the final intermission. But Argentina sank 26 points in the fourth period and raced to the victory. Franco Baralle (177-PG-99) tossed in 13 points for Argentina. Salvador Martinez (193-SF) answered with 24 points for Mexico. Diego Willis (192-PG) chipped in 13 points in the loss.

Venezuela - Canada 55-84
Canada got to the winning start of their U16 FIBA Americas campaign. The North American side rolled past Venezuela in Group B. Danilo Djuricic (200-F-99) scored 17 points and grabbed 11 rebounds for the winners. Canada unleashed 29 points in the first period to take a 23-point lead. Venezuela slowed their opponents down in the second term. The Latin American team pulled within 19 points at the interval 28:47. However Canada replied with a 25:7 run in the third term and cleared off for good. Ignas Brazdeikis (198-G/F-99) produced 16 points and 10 rebounds, while Noah Kirkwood (195-G/F-0) chipped in 13 points for the winners. Carlos Paez (179-PG-0) responded with 14 points for Venezuela.
