Uruguay - Mexico 68-74
In closest game of the day Mexico beat Uruguay in a battle for seventh place. Yahir Bonilla (204-SF-03) scored 23 points and also he added double-digit number of rebounds, he had 15 for huge double-double performance for young Mexican player. With combined of 35 index points he was true MVP of this game. Jesus Ochoa (186-PG-04) added 12 points, 4 rebounds and 7 assists. Agustin Ubal (197-G-03) scored 20 points and 7 rebounds, but 1 out of 8 for three points lower his index and he ended with only 5. Best was Nicolas Bessio (188-PG-03) with 16 points, 7 rebounds and 4 assists.
Group 5-6 Place
Puerto Rico - Brazil 61-78
Brazil managed to won game easy against Puerto Rico in a match for fifth place on FIBA Americas U16 tournament. Felipe Motta (199-G/F-03) put great effort in this game with 31 points, 5 rebounds and 4 assists. Vinicius Vicenti (187-PG-03) scored 18 points and grabbed 5 rebounds. Puerto Rico side didn't stood a chance in this game but Jeremy Figueroa (180-G-03) put great game alongside his name. 15 points and 6 rebounds with 6 assists for best player of Puerto Rico side on this game. Joshua Rivera (198-F-03) had double-double with 12 points and 10 rebounds but he did miss a lot from the field and that lower his index rating.
Group 3-4 Place
Argentina - Dominican Republic 77-80
What a tournament for Jean Montero (185-G-03)! He put magnificent performance and bring bronze to Dominican Republic after they beat Argentina in last game on this tournament. Montero scored 49 out of 80 total points for Dominican Republic, he added 12 rebounds and 1 assists in this game. Rebounds prevailed on this game as Dominican side collected 48 while Argentina had 37. In Argentina best was Esteban Caffaro (200-SF-03) with 22 points and 12 rebounds. Dominican Republic ended this tournament with 4 wins and 3 loses, Argentina had 2-5.
Group FINAL
USA - Canada 94-77
USA did it again! Another gold for USA and again they beat Canadian side in the Finals. They dominated the rim with 58 out of 94 points, also bench helped a lot for USA side. Canada managed to lead only one time with +2 and that was on very beginning of the game. 34 rebounds for USA versus 29 for Canada in this game, not a big difference but if we take a look on Offensive rebounds it was huge win for USA, they had 23 and Canada had only 11. MVP of this game was Chris Livingston (196-F) with 23 points and 6 rebounds, three players contributed with 20 index rating, Jabari Smith (203-F) combined 14 points and 9 rebounds, Jalen Duren (206-PF) flushed 10 points and grabbed 8 rebounds and A.J. Griffin (198-SF) had 18 points and 5 rebounds. Caleb Houstan (205-F/G-03) scored 25 points for Canada, he was followed by Enoch Boakye (206-C-03) with 12 points and 13 rebounds. Ryan Nembhard (183-PG-03) scored 21 point and had 9 assists.



Canada and USA to meet in Final - Jun 9, 2019

Group 5-8 Place
Brazil - Mexico 64-62
Brazil in a close game beat Mexico in Latino-American classic. Rodolfo Bolis (197-F-03) scored 11 points with 13 points for double-double and he was named MVP of this game. Felipe Motta (199-G/F-03) contributed with 17 points and 6 rebounds. In losing team Yahir Bonilla (204-SF-03) scored 12 points and had 10 rebounds, Eder Acevedo (189-C-03) scored 6 points and had also 10 rebounds. It was close game from very beginning to the end but Brazil did succeed to finish this game in a victory side as Vinicius Vicenti (187-PG-03) in last second scored two point jump-shoot and didn't allow that this game go to over-time.

Puerto Rico - Uruguay 65-40
We needed to wait three quarters in this to someone make a step towards a victory. Puerto Rico made that step when they dominate third quarter with 23:5 result. Johned Walker (178-G-03) lead his teammates to the win with 20 points, 8 rebounds and 5 assists which gives him MVP award for this game as he collected 32 ranking points. Joshua Rivera (198-F-03) was behind him with 11 points, 3 rebounds and 2 assists. In Uruguay 13 points was added by Agustin Ubal (197-G-03), he also had 4 rebounds. Luciano Previatti (197-PF-03) double-double performance combining 10 points and 11 rebounds was just not enough for Uruguay to do something more in this game.
Group Semifinals
Dominican Republic - Canada 81-97
In high scoring game Canada beat Dominican Republic with 16 point margin. Even if this game was pretty-much close in first half, Canada did make a difference in third quarter which they won 24:31. One of the keys for Canada victory is shooting from the field percentage. Canada was shooting 63.3% for 2PT and 35.0% for 3PT. Dominican Republic had only 16.7% outside of 3PT line. Best in Canada and MVP of this game was Caleb Houstan (205-F/G-03) with amazing 29 points and 5 rebounds, he also added 2 assists. Ryan Nembhard (183-PG-03) had 19 points and 12 rebounds while Enoch Boakye (206-C-03) had 8 points but 16 rebounds (!). Jean Montero (185-G-03) showed his class in Dominican Republic team and flushed 29 points and 10 rebounds for double-double performance, he also added 4 assists to his name. That was his third double-double on this tournament.

USA - Argentina 90-58
USA again showed dominance in this tournament by beating Argentina in Semifinals with +32 difference. Entire game was pretty much done after half time when USA players create difference that Argentina was not able to reach. On half time it was already 47:32. USA protected their rim with 34 defensive rebounds and they also grabbed 24 rebounds in offense (Argentina had only 9). Great help did come from the bench for USA. Best in USA was Jalen Duren (206-PF) with 12 points and 7 rebounds, he was followed by Jabari Smith (203-F) with 18 points and 5 rebounds. In losing side Lucas Sigismonti flushed 18 points.



Day 4 in Belem. Semifinals are set. - Jun 8, 2019

Uruguay - Argentina 53-62
Argentina pretty much controlled entire game from the very beginning. With 8:16 in first quarter they showed dominance and quality against Uruguay. Their biggest lead was +14 in entire game while Uruguay never took the lead in this match. With 25 points from turnover Argentinian side was punishing Uruguay for bad concentration through the entire game. Argentina also scored 16 points from fast-breaks. In rebounds Uruguay was better with 47 and Argentina had 40. MVP of this game is going to the hands of Francisco Conrradi (191-G-03)with 25 points, 2 rebounds and 3 assists. Best in losing team of Uruguay was Agustin Gentile (193-F-03) with 11 points and 4 rebounds.

Dominican Republic - Brazil 73-71
In closest game of Quarter-Finals in FIBA Americas U16, Dominican Republic managed to beat Brazil and advance to Semifinals. It was roller-coaster of leading change, as it was done 13 times in entire game. Biggest lead for Brazil was +5 while Dominicans had +11 at some point. Brazil showed dominance on the rim as they grabbed 54 rebounds, while Dominican Republic had 38.Last quarter was decider as Dominican Republic won it with +5 points difference (19:14). MVP of the game was Jean Montero (185-G-03) with 26 points, 7 rebounds and 7 assists. In Brazil best was Rodolfo Bolis (197-F-03) with 20 points and 23 rebounds, massive double-double performance for young player.

Canada - Mexico 95-78
From the very beginning of the game Canada put the the things in their place as they won first quarter with 26:15. Mexico responded with +6 win in quarter number two, but right away after half time break Canada responded with another double digit win in a quarter 25:14 and that was beginning of the end for Mexico. Last quarter was just formality and it was finished 26:25 for Canada for total 95:78 for team of Kirby Schepp. Caleb Houstan (205-F/G-03), Ryan Nembhard (183-PG-03) and Enoch Boakye (206-C-03) combined 60 out of 95 for Canada. Boakye also grabbed 17 points for his double-double performance. Yahir Bonilla (204-SF-03) didn't have anyone to follow him in Mexico as he scored 27 points with 20 rebounds and 5 assists. Amazing performance but he didn't manage to beat Canada alone.

USA - Puerto Rico 102-51
With a perfect game played for USA, they are now advancing to the Semifinals. It was a huge win for USA side as they managed to beat Puerto Rico in every aspect. Americans had 60 rebounds this game, compared to only 39 for Puerto Rico team. With 26 assists USA players were scoring easy buckets and game was decided in second quarter where USA won that part of the game with 29:8. Jabari Smith was MVP of this game with total of 19 index ranking, as he combined 15 points, 6 rebounds and 2 assists. Chris Livingston (196-F) scored 13 points, 7 rebounds and 3 assist for total ranking of 17. In losing team Eric Navarro (188-F-03) had 12 points and 4 rebounds.



Day 3 in Belem - Jun 6, 2019

BELEM (Brazil) - The United States and Canada, both with a record of three wins without setbacks, culminated as undefeated leaders of the FIBA U16 Americas Championship 2019, which takes place at the Arena Guilherme Paraense de Belem, Brazil.

Both North American squads celebrated on the last day of the Group Phase, while Uruguay surprised Brazil and Argentina also added its first conquest of the tournament.

In the first commitment of the day, the United States ratified its tremendous level and secured the first place of Group A with a 3-0 record, after defeating the Dominican Republic with a score of 122-71.

The North Americans dominated in all facets of the duel, but on this day, they were especially effective in attack, especially from the long distance, with 52 percent from the field (90-47), including 39-22 in three-point land. With such effectiveness, it was impossible for the Dominicans to stay close, despite the fact that in the first 15 minutes of the match they were fighting as equals with their opponent.

Cormac Christie (196-G) led the score with 24 points, shooting eight three-pointers in 10 attempts. Amari Bailey (193-G) followed with 18 tallies and 6-4 from long distance. In total there were seven American players who finished with more than 10 points.

For the Dominican Republic (2-1), which was left with the second spot of the group, again had Jean Montero (185-G-03) excelling with 21 points and 11 rebounds and Breylin Garcia (196-SF-03) added 14 points.

In the other Group A game, Mexico and Argentina faced each other for the third place and the South Americans took the best part after winning 84-75.

The Argentines (1-2) relied on 11 three-pointers and capitalized the 21 losses of the Aztecs to draw differences; nevertheless, in the third quarter, Mexico improved in defense and took advantage of the second opportunities to go ahead by 56-55 with a three-pointer from Bryan Ceballos (189-F-03). But Argentina closed that third quarter with an 11-2 run, thanks to three three-pointers, to enter the fourth period with the scoreboard 66-58 in their favor.

Mexico (0-3) kept trying but lacked more accuracy in their shots. Caffaro and Francisco Conrradi led the score for Argentina with 15 points each. Ceballos, with 20 points and 11 rebounds and Yahir Bonilla with 18 points, 21 boards, and six assists, did the same for Mexico.

In Group B action, Canada continued its good performance and defeated Puerto Rico, 96-76, to be the first place of the key with a 3-0 mark.

The Canadians were incisive in defense (they stole 13 balls), moved the ball (28 assists) and ran the court effectively (40 points in counterattack) to control the game.

DJ Jackson (191-PG-03) with 22 points and four three-pointers, led the Canadians offense, while Caleb Houstan (205-F/G-03) and Shaedon Sharpe (191-SG-03) added 17 and 15 points, respectively.

Puerto Rico won the last quarter with a 30-17 quarter, but the disadvantage was too wide to think of a comeback. Jesus Sierra (188-SG-03) with 14 points and Jeremy Figueroa (180-G-03) with 12, were the best scorers.

In the last day of the game, Uruguay surprised and celebrated against the hosts, 55-68.

The first half of the match was tied 26-26 but Uruguay started the third period with an 18-0 run to go ahead 44-26 with 5:10 minutes to play in the quarter. That run ended up being definitive.

The good moment of the Uruguayans coincided with the offensive awakening of the forward Agustin Ubal (197-G-03), that in that third section scored 18 of the team's 24 points. In fact, in the first half, he had only managed to score a field goal.

Joaquin Rodriguez (199-F-03) also sported 20 points, including a three-pointer with 44 seconds left, which opened the gap to 15 (68-53) and allowed his team to climb to second place in the group.

For Brazil, Rodolfo Bolis (197-F-03) contributed 18 points and 11 rebounds and Tiago Faria (177-PG-03) added 14.

Day 2 in Belem - Jun 5, 2019

On the second day of action of the FIBA U16 Americas Championship 2019, which takes place at the Guilherme Paraense Arena in Belem, Brazil, the teams from Canada, the Dominican Republic and the United States maintained their r undefeated record, while Puerto Rico tasted triumph for the first time.
Canada (2-0) returned to a solid performance and finished as leader of Group B, beating Brazil 90-67.
The North troop imposed its superiority in stature dominating the rebounds 57 (26 offensive) to 41 and were efficient taking advantage of the errors of their rival. The 16 turnovers of Brazil were transformed into 27 points of the opponent, compared to only six of the hosts.
Caleb Houstan (205-F/G-03) was the top scorer with 28 points, including four of the team's eight three-pointers. The forward also captured 10 rebounds. Shaedon Sharpe (191-SG-03) escorted him with 13 points.
For the Amazonians, who left their balance in 1-1, guard Matheus Leoni (185-PG-03) for the second day was the best in scoring with 14. Felipe Motta (199-G/F-03) closed with 13 and Rodolfo Bolis (197-F-03) left with a double-double of 11 points and 13 rebounds.
Point guard Jean Montero (185-G-03) gave a sample of its offensive quality and with 42 points led the Dominican Republic to an important victory over Argentina, 90-77, in Group A.
The Dominicans, who like in the first day exhibited intensity in defense and a lot of speed, achieved their second victory, while the Argentineans fell to 0-2.
After an even first quarter in which the South Americans finished 23-22, the Dominican Republic began to make a difference in the hand of Montero, who scored 14 of his 28 field goals, including three three-pointers. In addition, he scored 11 free throws in 13 attempts. The point guard rounded off his brilliant performance with 11 rebounds and five turnovers.
For Argentina, excelled center Agusto Roveres with 29 points and 11 rebounds and forward Esteban Caffaro (200-SF-03) with 19 and seven boards.
Puerto Rico resisted the reaction of Uruguay in the second half of the game and managed to prevail by 69-58 to get its first triumph in Group B.
The Puerto Ricans after dominating the first half by 37-25 suffered the offensive explosion of forward Agustin Ubal (197-G-03), who took Uruguay and led them to take the lead 51-46 in the first two minutes of the fourth quarter. However, the Uruguayans fell back into inaccuracies with the ball.
With six minutes left and the game tied at 53, Uruguay coach Marcelo Capalbo was sent off with his second technical foul and that generated a mental drop to the Uruguayans. The Caribbean team took full advantage of the situation.
A three pointer by Eric Navarro (188-F-03) with 2:03 minutes put Puerto Rico ahead 64-55, which at that point was crucial for the win.
Johned Walker (178-G-03) with 16 points, eight rebounds and four assists, led the team from Borinquen. Jeremy Figueroa (180-G-03) followed with 14 points. For Uruguay, Ubal's 30 points and 13 rebounds were not enough to prevent their second loss.
The United States achieved its second victory in Group A by beating Mexico to a score of 104-52 in the first match of the day.
The red, white and blue team looked more tuned than on the first day of competition and were completely superior in all facets of the game: they defended, took care of the ball, attacked the key and scored from long distance, not to give any kind of opportunities to the opponent.
Amari Bailey (193-G) with 21 points guided the offensive, while center Jalen Duren (206-PF) excelled with 18 points, 17 rebounds and five assists. The guard Richard Isaacs Jr. (185-PG) added 15, with four three-pointers.
The Aztecs had Bryan Ceballos (189-F-03), Ivan De La Garza and Miguel Figueroa (185-G-03) with 10 points each.
On the last day of the Group Phase, USA will face the Dominican Republic, Mexico will face Argentina, Puerto Rico will meet Canada and the host will face Uruguay.

Day 1 in Belem - Jun 4, 2019

The teams from Brazil, the United States, the Dominican Republic and Canada were victorious on the first day of the FIBA U16 Americas Championship 2019, that began on Monday at the Guilherme Paraense Arena in the city of Belem, Brazil.
The hosts did not disappoint and took advantage of the momentum of their fans to defeat Puerto Rico, 72-58, thanks to an inspired match closure. The Brazilian defense in the last five minutes only allowed the rival to two points, to claim their first win in Group B action.
With 5:41 remaining, Puerto Rico approached 57-56 with a steal and a Johned Walker (178-G-03) lay-up; however, thereafter the Boricua offense hindered by the good work of the Brazilians, which limited Puerto Ricans and forced them to lose balls at crucial moments.
For its part, Brazil took advantage of these errors and opened the gap, while established a physical domain by controlling the rebounds 60 (22 offensive) to 40 and add 46 points in the paint.
The base Matheus Leoni (185-PG-03) with 18 points and the pivot Rodolfo Bolis (197-F-03) with 17 and 16 rebounds, were the most productive for the home team. Walker with 20 units stood out for the Puerto Rican side.
In the previous game, Argentina had a dream first quarter to dominate 20-7, but the United States brought out its hierarchy, made adjustments and ended up winning 83-57, in a Group A match.
The North Americans closed the defense, ran the court, took advantage of their athletic qualities and in the next three sets were completely superior to the Argentines, who despite the setback did not leave a bad impression.
Smith, with 22 points and nine rebounds, led the United States in attack. Griffin followed with 17. Caffaro and Agusto Roveres were the best for Argentina with 14 and 12 points, respectively.
Dominican Republic came back from a disadvantage that came to be 14 points to defeat Mexico by 71-66 and take a step forward in Group A.
The Caribbean squad relied on a strong defensive pressure in the second half of the commitment, which allowed them to recover several balls and get baskets on the other side. Mexico finished with 25 turnovers, of which 15 were in the second half, thanks to the defense of their rivals.
In attack, the Dominicans had up to five players with 10 or more points. Jean Montero (185-G-03) led the scorers with 15, while Angel Pimentel (193-SF-03) and Norman Tejada scored 14 apiece. Breylin Garcia (196-SF-03) contributed a double-double of 10 points and 14 rebounds.
For Mexico, Yahir Bonilla (204-SF-03) had 14 points, 14 rebounds and six assists and Miguel Figueroa (185-G-03) added 12.
In the match that marked the opening of the tournament, Canada was forceful and defeated Uruguay, 101-63, in a match for Group B.
The first quarter of the match was a close fight (23-21 in favor of Canada), but thereafter the team from the North asserted their physical strength and tipped the balance completely in their favor.
The Canadians controlled the boards by catching 60 rebounds (27 offensive) to 40 of the rival and achieved 28 points in second chances. In addition, they made 25 points after the 21 turnovers of the Uruguayan team.
Forwards Shaedon Sharpe (191-SG-03) and Caleb Houston led the attack of the winners with 18 and 17 points respectively, while Agustin Ubal (197-G-03) finished with 16 for the celestes.
On the second day of the continental competition, USA will face Mexico, Uruguay will meet Puerto Rico, Dominican Republic against Argentina and at the last game, Canada will face Brazil.
