Puerto Rico - USA 61-96
USA stormed past Puerto Rico in the opening day of the tournament. USA grabbed a 46-33 halftime lead. They sank 50 points in the second half and eased to the victory at the end. Darryn Peterson posted 22 points, while Koa Peat added 14 points in the win. Felipe Quinones answered with 20 points for Puerto Rico.

Argentina - Mexico 61-59
Argentina nipped hosting Mexico in the opener. Mexico eked out a 27-25 halftime advantage. Argentina erased the deficit in the third term as the teams entered the fourth period tied at 41. Argentina dropped 20 points in the final stanza and snatched a tough win at the end. Tyler Kropp produced 21 points and 16 rebounds for the winners. Karim Lopez answered with 15 points and 14 rebounds for Mexico.

Uruguay - Brazil 55-83
Brazil cruised past Uruguay in Merida. They grabbed a comfortable 43-27 halftime advantage. Brazil unloaded 40 points in the second half and eased to the opening win. Patrick Perna provided 19 points, while Pedro Fernandes and Nolan Kemm tossed in 17 points each for Brazil. Valentin Curbelo answered with 15 points for Uruguay.

Dominican Republic - Canada 57-63
Canada outgunned Dominican Republic to improve at 1-0 record in Merida. The teams traded baskets throughout the first half. The scoreboard read 31-31 at halftime. But Canada stiffened defensively in the second half. They held their opponents to just 26 points after the big break and snatched the win. Paul Osaruyi tallied 14 points and 11 rebounds for the North American side. Lucas Morillo answered with 21 points for Dominican Republic.
