LUB Round 23 (Regular Season): Derby game ends with Aguada's defeat of Hebraica

The most exciting game was a derby match between two local teams from Montevideo: Aguada (#2) and Hebraica (#5). Aguada (15-7) won against visiting Hebraica (13-8) 85-80. Aguada made 22-of-26 free shots (84.6 percent) during the game. American Earl Clark (208-1988, college: Louisville, agency: BIG) orchestrated the victory by scoring 24 points and 8 rebounds. point guard Juan Santiso (185-1994) contributed with 13 points, 6 rebounds and 9 assists for the winners. American forward Myke Henry (198-1992, college: DePaul) answered with 22 points and 5 rebounds for Hebraica. Both coaches used bench players in such tough game. Aguada have a solid series of three victories in a row. They maintain second place with 15-7 record having three points less than leader Penarol. Hebraica at the other side keeps the fifth position with eight games lost.
Another exciting game was again a derby between two teams from Montevideo: U.Atletica (#6) and Nacional (#3). U.Atletica (11-11) won against visiting Nacional (14-8) 91-81. It was a great evening for American forward Ty Prince (198-1999, college: UMHB) who led his team to a victory scoring 21 points and 8 rebounds. Juan Ducasse helped adding 14 points, 9 rebounds, 5 assists and 4 blocks. Guard Agustin Mendez (180-2003) responded with 19 points and 4 assists. Despite that victory U.Atletica went down to seventh position due to points difference, which they share with Bigua. Defending champion Nacional keeps the third place with eight games lost. They share the position with Malvin.

It ended at the same time the three-game winning streak of Aguada. It was an exceptional evening for Elijah Weaver who led the winners and scored 33 points (!!!) and 4 assists. Santiago Vidal came up with 29 points and 8 assists for Aguada in the defeat. Aguada's coach German Cortizas rotated ten players in this game, but that didn't help. Defensor have a solid series of three victories in a row. They moved-up to sixth place. Loser Aguada keeps the second position with seven games lost.

There were no big surprises in other games of round 23: bottom-ranked Welcome beat Bigua on the road 86-81. Malvin won against U.Atletica on its own court 79-73. Bottom-ranked Cordon was outscored by Nacional in Montevideo 126-75. Urunday recorded a loss to Penarol at home 83-100. Hebraica defeated Goes on the opponent's court 97-91.
The most impressive performance of 23th round was 21 points and 8 rebounds by Jalen Canty of Hebraica.



Aguada - Hebraica 85-80

U.Atletica brought some defensive toughness making 7 blocks. It was a great evening for American forward Ty Prince (198-1999, college: UMHB) who led his team to a victory scoring 21 points and 8 rebounds. Naturalized Italian forward Juan Ducasse (208-1998, college: Santa Clara) helped adding 14 points, 9 rebounds, 5 assists and 4 blocks. Five U.Atletica players scored in double figures. Guard Agustin Mendez (180-2003) responded with 19 points and 4 assists and Panamanian power forward Ernesto Oglivie (203-1989) scored 19 points. There was a surprise result when twelfth ranked Welcome (4-18) beat higher ranked Bigua (11-11) in Montevideo 86-81 on Wednesday. Welcome looked well-organized offensively handing out 21 assists. It was an exceptional evening for American power forward Rashad Hassan (203-1989, college: SSU) who led the winners with a double-double by scoring 26 points and 17 rebounds (on 11-of-14 shooting from the field). point guard Juan Martin Ortiz (185-2002) accounted for 22 points and 5 rebounds for the winning side. American point guard Deshone Hicks (178-1999, college: Ferrum) came up with 27 points, 6 rebounds and 4 assists and Dominican Jhery Matos (196-1996, college: Charlotte) added 15 points and 14 rebounds respectively for Bigua in the defeat. Welcome moved-up to eleventh place. Loser Bigua dropped to the seventh position with 11 games lost. They share it with U.Atletica.

It was an exceptional evening for forward Nicolas Martinez (206-2003) who led the winners and scored 20 points and 6 rebounds (was perfect 8-for-8 from the free throw line). Naturalized German Kiril Wachsmann (203-1984, college: Iona) accounted for 7 points and 13 rebounds for the winning side. American swingman Christian Alaekwe (193-1998, college: St.Thomas, TX) came up with a double-double by scoring 18 points and 10 rebounds and the other American import forward Ty Prince (198-1999, college: UMHB) added 13 points, 10 rebounds and 4 assists respectively for U.Atletica in the defeat. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Malvin moved-up to third place, which they share with Nacional. Nacional dominated down low during the game scoring 70 of its points in the paint compared to Cordon's 46. Nacional forced 20 Cordon turnovers and outrebounded them 36-23 including 28 on the defensive glass. Nacional looked well-organized offensively handing out 21 assists. It was an exceptional evening for American forward Connor Zinaich (201-1997, college: Nova SE) who led the winners with a double-double by scoring 27 points and 10 rebounds. American-Dominican center James Feldeine (193-1988, college: Quinnipiac) accounted for 24 points and 4 assists for the winning side. Five Nacional players scored in double figures. American guard Rob Perry (193-2000, college: Murray St.) came up with 21 points and the other American import power forward Jordan ONeal (201-2001, college: Jackson St., agency: JCK Sports Group) added 15 points (on 7-of-8 shooting from the field) respectively for Cordon in the defeat. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games.
