Puerto Rican U17 national team triumphed at home Centrobasket tournament
in Humacao. They won all four encounters en route to the final and
deservedly found themselves on top. Puerto Rico faced Dominican Republic
in the last day game and needed a victory to claim the top spot. The
hosts controlled the game right from the start and outscored their
opponents 18:8 in the first frame. They extended the gap to 40:24 at
halftime and drove comfortably ahead. Dominican Republic tried to bounce
back in the third stanza but never succeeded and had to surrender.
Raymond Cortes was unstoppable for Puerto Rico as he secured 29 points
and 4 rebounds for the home side.
Carlos Hernandez added 10 points, 9 assists and 7 boards for the
winners. Andreas Terrero answered with 17 points, 5 rebounds and 5
assists for Dominican Republic. Yohansi Jimenez added 12 points in
defeat.
Dominican Republic finished at the third spot and qualified for the 2008
U18 Fiba Americas championship.
Mexico U17 - Virgin Islands U17 103:88
Mexican U17 team finished the Centrobasket tournament in style as they
cruised past Virgin Islands 103:88. The victory saw Mexico improve to
the second spot in the final ladder. Virgin Islands completed their
campaign with 1 win and 4 losses.
Mexico also ensured their U18 Americas champiosnhip birth.
Carlos Lypez topscored for Mexico with 25 points. Juan Pablo Casillas
and Daniel Tames provided sufficient help netting 23 points apiece.
Olani Vanterpool led Virgin Islands with 21 points and 10 rebounds.
Bahamas U17 - Trinidad and Tobago U17 78:63
Bahamas recorded their third win at the tournament as they beat Trinidad
and Tobago 78:63. However it brought little satisfaction to Bahamian
players as they narrowly missed qualification to the 2008 U18 Fiba
Americas championship.
Donathen Moss (-91) was a usual contributor for Bahamas producing 18
points and 16 rebounds.
Jermine Storr (-90) added 13 points for the winners. Ashton Demurell
had 21 points and 10 rebounds in a loss. Trinidad and Tobago completed
the tournament winless.

Puerto Rico U17 - Bahamas U17 116:84
Puerto Rico U17 national team qualified for the Fiba Americas U18
Championship held next year. They already ensured one of two top spots
at the U17 Centrobasket tournament in Humacao.
Puerto Rico dominate the scene at the tournament overwhelming each of
their opponents with 30+ advantage. Bahamas were not exception to the
rule as Puerto Rico cruised past them to extend their winning streak to
3 games. Puerto Rico had a stunning start to this one as they rolled to
a 36:10 advantage after the first frame. Bahamas then became the first
team at the tournament to win a single quarter against the home side
29:24. But it was the only success for Bahamian players. Puerto Rico
proved the difference in the second half and sealed the victory at the
end.
Puerto Rico had 7 players to score in double figures. Isaac Carriyn and
Jose Rodriguez provided 18 points apiece for hosts. Steven Bonefont had
14 points, 6 assists and 5 rebounds for the winners.
Raymond Higgs (-91) responded with game-high 24 points for Bahamas.
Donathen Moss (-91) added 20 points and 13 rebounds in defeat.

Dominican Republic U17 - Mexico U17 82:79 Dominican Republic ensured their second winning result at the
U17 Centrobasket tournament in Puerto Rico. They rallied past previously
undefeated Mexico to draw them in the ladder.
Mexico were more impressive at the start of this one as they established
a 19:12 lead after the first frame. Dominican Republic though cut the
deficit in the second quarter and stayed at a 31:36 distance from their
opponents. The gap got narrowed in the third frame when Dominican
Republic players managed to outplay 3 more points and entered the final
stanza trailing by 2 points 58:60. Mexico seemed to run out of steam in
the dying stages of the game and could not maintain Dominican fast
breaks. Dominican Republic team sealed a 24:19 fourth frame and
celebrated another win at the tournament.
Yohansi Jimenez led Dominican Republic team with 23 points.
Kelvin Valdez (-91) added 16 points for the winners. Juan Pablo
Casillas provided 25 points, 6 rebounds, 5 assists, 2 steals and 2
blocks for Mexico. Daniel Tames had 15 points in defeat.

Mexican team suffered another massive blow as they were crashed by the
hosting Puerto Rico yesterday. Mexico simply were not able to cope with
an impressive Puerto Rican offense that overwhelm virtually every other
opponent at this tournament.
Puerto Rican team controllled the game right from the start as they
surprised Mexican team 31:11 in the first quarter. The things just got
worse for Mexico in the second frame as they were outscored 38:26 to
trail by as many as 32 points at halftime 37:69. Puerto Rico had only to
ease to an overall victory and they successfully fulfilled the task.
Raymond Cortes was unstoppable for the home side as he poured in 28
points. Mexica were paced by 15 points from Juan Pablo Casillas. Daniel
Tames nailed another 14 points.
Mexico now fell to 2-2 record and will face Virgin Islands today. Puerto
Rico will clash with Dominican Republic for the top spot in the ladder.

later as they cruised past Trinidad. The victory saw them improve to 3-1
record behind leading Puerto Rico (4-0). Dominican Republic had little
problems en route to the win as they secured a comfortable advantage
early in the game. They posted a 36:18 lead at halftime and never looked
back from now on.
Andreas Terrero topscored for Dominican Republic team with 17 points, 9
rebounds and 6 steals.
Kelvin Valdez contributed 15 points, 5 rebounds, 8 steals and 5
assists.
Ashton Demurrell (-91) ensured 14 points in a losing effort.
Dominican Republic will face Puerto Rico in the tournament decider
today.

Mexico U17 - Trinidad and Tobago U17 96:52
Mexican U17 national team continued their perfect campaign in Puerto
Rico. They handled Trinidad in the second round of Centrobasket
tournament in Humacao. The win saw them improve to 2-0 record and stay
on top of the ladder together with hosts.
The teams started the game in somehow cautiously. They kept it close in
the opening frame and Mexico led 16:15 at the end of it. Trinidad did
not allow Mexican players to clear off in the second quarter and trailed
by just 5 points at halftime 32:37. However breakaway came in the third
frame as Mexican team put on impressive basketball performance and
spurred ahead to an unassailable 75:46 advantage entering the fourth
frame. Trinidad never recovered from the blow and managed just 6 points
in the final 10 minutes to suffer their second defeat at the tournament.
Juan Pablo Casillas led all scorers with 23 points, 8 assists, 6
rebounds and 5 steals for Mexico. Carlos Lypez secured another 19 points
and 6 rebounds for the winners.
Kyle Rowley (-91) answered with 13 points and 15 rebounds for
Trinidad.
Sheldon Esdelle-Blackburn (-92) had 12 points in a losing effort.
Mexico dominated the boards and shot more accurately from the field.
They also forced Trinidad players to 29 turnovers.
Mexico will next take on Dominican Republic. Trinidad will try to
improve against Virgin Islands.
Bahamas U17 - Dominican Republic U17 72:68
Bahamas U17 National team celebrated their first victory at the
Centrobasket tournament in Humacao. They defeated Domincan Republic team
in a closely fought contest and tied them in the ladder at 1-1 record.
Bahamas emerged strong in the first half. They played aggressive
defensive basketball and held their opponents to 21 points in the half,
while Bahamain players scored 33. Domincan Republic found the touch in
the third stanza as Andres Terrero and Yohansi Jimenez knocked down
consecutive long jumpers and led their team to a local 25:18 success.
Dominican Republic tried hard to save the encounter at the end but a
strong performance from
Donathen Moss (-91) and
Jermine Storr (-90) ensured a winning outcome for the Islanders.
Donathen Moss provided 21 points and 12 rebounds for Bahamas.
Jermine Storr added 20 points and 9 rebounds for the winners.
Kelvin Valdez (-91) responded with 15 points and 4 blocks for
Dominican Republic. Yohansi Jimenez and Jhony De La Cruz produced 14
points apiece in defeat.
Bahamas had a huge dominance under the rims as they pulled down 54
rebounds, including 20 offensive ones. They also converted 44% of
two-pointers and 68% of free throws. Dominican Republic players lacked
accuracy from the charity stripe hitting just 50%.
Bahamas will next take on hosting Puerto Rico. Dominican Republic is
scheduled to play against Mexico in the third round.
Puerto Rico U17 - Virgin Islands U17 112:67 Puerto Rico posted another stunning win at the U17 Centrobasket
tournament in Humacao. They thrashed Virgin Islands 112:67 to improve to
2-0 record.
The home side marked their dominance in the first frame outscoring
Virgin Islands team 30:13. Virgin Islands struggled to maintain Puerto
Rican offense and allowed them to pour in another 24 points in the
second quarter. Establishing a 54:27 lead at halftime Puerto Rico
continued to entertain the home crowd and rolled to a 31:19 third frame.
All the questions about the outcome were dropped and Puerto Rico cruised
to an overall victory at the end.
Raymond Cortes topscored for Puerto Rico with 25 points and 7 assists.
Steven Bonefont contributed 24 points, 7 rebounds, 5 assists and 4
steals in a win.
Lamar Bough (-G-91) nailed 16 points and collected 9 rebounds for
Virgin Islands. Olani Vanterpool added 11 points in a loss.
Puerto Rico outrebounded their opponents 55:48. They shot 42% from
two-point range, while the Islanders converted 34%. The home side also
forced Virgin Islands players to 31 turnovers.
Puerto Rico plays against Bahamas in the third round. Virgin Islands
will seek for their first victory against Trinidad and Tobago.

Mexican U17 National team got to a winning start of their Centrobasket
campaign in Puerto Rico. In the starting game in Group A they handled
Bahamas team.
Mexican players drove to an early 23:11 lead after the first frame and
kept it in double figures at halftime 47:33. Bahamas tried to put
themselves in more comfortable situation as they outscored Mexico 25:22
in the third quarter and cut the deficit to 11 points. But Mexico
emerged strong in the final frame and sealed overall victory.
Daniel Tames and Juan Pablo Casillas led Mexico with 18 points apiece.
Daniel Ibarra and Carlos Lypez provided 16 points each to secure win.
Bahamas were paced by 20 points and 11 rebounds from
Donathen Moss (-91).
Dario Cox (-91) added 13 points in a losing effort.
Mexico shot better frm two-point range as they knocked down 45% of their
attempts, while Bahamas converted just 19%. Bahamas also struggled from
free throw line hitting only 55%. Bahamas at the same time dominated the
battle under the rims outrebounding their opponents 59:42. Mexican
defence forced Bahamain players to 23 turnovers.
Mexico will now face Trinidad in their next encounter. Bahamas will take
on Dominican Republic.

Dominican Republic U17 National team enjoyed a successful start of the
Centrobasket tournament in Puerto Rico. They overcame Virgin Islands
77:65 in the first game in Group A. Leading 34:26 at halftime Dominican
Republic players spurred to a perfect 22:11 third stanza to clear off
for good. Yohanzi Jimenez paced Dominican Republic team with 16 points.
Kelvin Valdez (-91) contributed another 15 points for the winners.
Olani Vanterpool replied with 16 points for Virgin Islands. Curtio
Fredericks and
Lamar Bough (-G-91) netted 14 points apiece in defeat.
Virgin Islands will next play against hosting Puerto Rico, while
Dominican Republic will face Bahamas.

Puerto Rico gave a warm welcome to Trinidad and Tobago team at the start
of the Centrobasket tournament in Humacao. The hosts thrashed their
opponents 111:61 en route to the first win. Puerto Rican players proved
the difference in the first quarter edging Trinidad 37:13. They extended
the lead to 83:41 entering the fourth frame and cruised to an overall
victory. Puerto Rico had 6 players scoring in double digits. Raymond
Cortes topscored with 21 points, 5 assists and 4 rebounds. Steven
Bonefont added 15 points, 6 rebounds and 7 steals for the winners.
