Puerto Rico U17 - Dominican Republic U17 87:62
Puerto Rican U17 national team triumphed at home Centrobasket tournament in Humacao. They won all four encounters en route to the final and deservedly found themselves on top. Puerto Rico faced Dominican Republic in the last day game and needed a victory to claim the top spot. The hosts controlled the game right from the start and outscored their opponents 18:8 in the first frame. They extended the gap to 40:24 at halftime and drove comfortably ahead. Dominican Republic tried to bounce back in the third stanza but never succeeded and had to surrender.
Raymond Cortes was unstoppable for Puerto Rico as he secured 29 points and 4 rebounds for the home side. Carlos Hernandez added 10 points, 9 assists and 7 boards for the winners. Andreas Terrero answered with 17 points, 5 rebounds and 5 assists for Dominican Republic. Yohansi Jimenez added 12 points in defeat.
Dominican Republic finished at the third spot and qualified for the 2008 U18 Fiba Americas championship.
Mexico U17 - Virgin Islands U17 103:88
Mexican U17 team finished the Centrobasket tournament in style as they cruised past Virgin Islands 103:88. The victory saw Mexico improve to the second spot in the final ladder. Virgin Islands completed their campaign with 1 win and 4 losses.
Mexico also ensured their U18 Americas champiosnhip birth.
Carlos Lypez topscored for Mexico with 25 points. Juan Pablo Casillas and Daniel Tames provided sufficient help netting 23 points apiece.
Olani Vanterpool led Virgin Islands with 21 points and 10 rebounds.
Bahamas U17 - Trinidad and Tobago U17 78:63
Bahamas recorded their third win at the tournament as they beat Trinidad and Tobago 78:63. However it brought little satisfaction to Bahamian players as they narrowly missed qualification to the 2008 U18 Fiba Americas championship.
Donathen Moss (-91) was a usual contributor for Bahamas producing 18 points and 16 rebounds. Jermine Storr (-90) added 13 points for the winners. Ashton Demurell had 21 points and 10 rebounds in a loss. Trinidad and Tobago completed the tournament winless.
