Puerto Rico celebrate title in Mexicali

Puerto Rico celebrated Centrobasket title in Mexicali. They shocked hosting Mexico in overtime to capture the trophy. Edir Ortiz (198-PF-03) stepped up with 28 points, 10 steals and 8 rebounds to lead the charge. Mexico posted a 42-33 halftime lead. They extended the margin at 16-point mark heading into the fourth frame. But Puerto Rico responded with a 21-5 run in the next period to force overtime. They outscored Mexico in the extra period to snatch the win. Alejandro Aviles (206-C-06) and Jose Ortiz (04) had 12 points each for Puerto Rico. Santiago Camacho (04) answered with 35 points for Mexico.

3-4 Place

Dominican Republic - Costa Rica 102-54
Dominican Republic earned the third position as they crushed Costa Rica in the consolation final. Yeison Liberato (198-SF-05) provided 19 points to lead the winners. Dominican Republic grabbed a 45-31 halftime lead. They sank 57 points in the second half and cruised to the victory. Jose Jimenez (190-SF-04) finished with 15 points for Dominican Republic. Saul Martinez (172-G-05) answered with 19 points for Costa Rica.

5-6 Place

Panama - Jamaica 82-76
Panama topped Jamaica to earn the fifth position in the championship. Jamaica eked out a 23-21 lead after ten minutes. But Panama responded with a 46-35 run in the next two quarters to surge ahead. They protected the lead throughout the fourth frame and rallied to the win. Humberto Kentish (173-G-05) provided 16 points, 6 rebounds and 6 assists for Panama. London Johnson (190-G-04) responded with game-high 34 points, 13 rebounds and 7 assists for Jamaica.

7-8 Place

El Salvador - Aruba 73-59
El Salvador finished the tournament on a high note. They knocked down Aruba to clinch the seventh position. El Salvador earned a 46-33 halftime lead. They controlled the tempo in the second half and rallied to the win. Juan Ibarra (194-C-04) tossed in 24 points and 12 rebounds, while Kaeden Sibrian (06) contributed 16 points for the winners. Shandirow Schmidt (05) answered with 18 points for Aruba.
