LNB Round 26: Concepcion lose to Puente Alto- April 30, 2023
The Regular Season in LNB is slowly approaching the end. But there may be still some important changes in the final standings in the last 3 rounds. Here is the last round review presented by Job Market.
Puerto Montt - Las Animas 88-82 There was an upset when higher ranked Las Animas (15-10) were defeated on the road by twelfth ranked Puerto Montt (9-17) 88-82 on Friday. Puerto Montt looked well-organized offensively handing out 24 assists. American Reggie Baker (193-1993, college: BCU) scored 28 points to lead the charge for the winners and the other American import forward Josh Morris (203-1993, college: UTPB) chipped in 18 points, 11 rebounds and 4 assists during the contest. Argentinian power forward Cristian Amicucci (200-1985) responded with a double-double by scoring 28 points and 13 rebounds and Spanish Alejandro Vergara (196-1995) scored 16 points, 8 rebounds and 6 assists. Four Puerto Montt and five Las Animas players scored in double figures. Puerto Montt moved-up to eleventh place. Loser Las Animas keep the fifth position with ten games lost. They share it with Valdivia. Puerto Montt will meet at home higher ranked Espanol O. (#7) in the next round and it may be quite challenging game. Las Animas will play against Puerto Varas and hope to secure a win. Visitors were defeated by Puente Alto 83-73. It ended at the same time the four-game winning streak of Concepcion. Puente Alto made 19-of-23 free shots (82.6 percent) during the game. The best player for the winners was center Joaquin Pino (-2000) who scored 25 points and 7 rebounds. American forward Marquez Letcher-Ellis (203-1997, college: Nevada) chipped in a double-double by scoring 16 points, 12 rebounds and 4 blocks. Five Puente Alto players scored in double figures. American forward Miles Bowman Jr (198-1993, college: High Point) produced a double-double by scoring 26 points and 10 rebounds (was perfect 9-for-9 from the free throw line !!!) and his fellow American import forward Jerry Evans (203-1990, college: Nevada) added 13 points and 15 rebounds respectively for the guests. Concepcion's coach Cipriano Nunez rotated ten players in this game, but that didn't help. Puente Alto maintains fourth position with 17-7 record. Defending champion Concepcion still keeps top place with three games lost. Puente Alto will have a break next round, and it should allow them to practice more before next game. Concepcion will play on the road against Quilicura and is hoping to win this game. Ancud made 18-of-22 free shots (81.8 percent) during the game. Ancud outrebounded Catolica 41-30 including a 36-22 advantage in defensive rebounds. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 24 assists comparing to just 7 passes made by Catolica's players. American forward Stephen Maxwell (201-1993, college: CSUN) had a double-double by scoring 43 points (!!!) and 10 rebounds (on 15-of-18 shooting from the field) to lead the charge for the winners and the other American import power forward Tavrion Dawson (202-1996, college: CSUN, agency: One Motive Sports) chipped in 19 points and 6 rebounds during the contest. Four Ancud players scored in double figures. American point guard Manny Payton (183-1997, college: FSU) responded with 25 points and forward Vicente Damianovic (-1997) scored 15 points. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Ancud maintains third position with 17-6 record having seven points less than leader Concepcion. Catolica lost third consecutive game. They keep the twelfth place with 19 games lost. Ancud will meet at home league's second-placed Los Leones in the next round and it will be for sure the game of the week. Catolica will have a break next round. The visitors from Quilpue managed to secure only three-point victory 67-64. However their fans expected much easier game. It ended at the same time the two-game winning streak of Castro. Castro was plagued by 24 personal fouls down the stretch. American power forward Markus Kennedy (206-1991, college: SMU) orchestrated the victory by scoring 21 points and 6 rebounds. American-Argentinian guard Romeao Ferguson (196-1997, college: Lipscomb) contributed with 12 points and 7 rebounds for the winners. Venezuelan Luis Merida (190) replied with a double-double by scoring 12 points and 12 rebounds and American swingman Sean Lloyd (196-1996, college: SIU) added 14 points and 4 assists in the effort for Castro. Castro's coach tried various players' combinations and tested in total eleven players, but that didn't help to avoid defeat in this game. Los Leones have a solid three-game winning streak. They maintain second position with 20-4 record having just three points less than leader Concepcion. Castro at the other side dropped to the ninth place with 12 games lost. Los Leones will play against Ancud (#3) on the road in the next round, which may be the game of the day. Castro will have a break next round. Four Valdivia players scored in double figures. Valdivia's coach Gabriel Schamberger felt very confident that he used 11 players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Matias Diaz (-2002) responded with 17 points and 4 assists and forward Ignacio Caceres (-2002) scored 8 points and 11 rebounds. Valdivia have a solid four-game winning streak. They moved-up to fifth place, which they share with Las Animas. Espanol T. lost thirteenth consecutive game. They keep the thirteenth position with 18 games lost. Valdivia will meet at home Tinguiririca (#14) in the next round and are hoping to win another game. Espanol T. will play against Temuco and it may be a tough game between close rivals. American forward DeAndre Daniels (206-1992, college: UConn, agency: BIG) scored 21 points and 8 rebounds to lead the charge for the winners and Argentinian point guard Nicolas Zurschmitten (183-1995) chipped in 13 points and 6 rebounds during the contest. Uruguayan guard Martin Trelles (187-1996) responded with 12 points and 8 rebounds and Argentinian Tomas Rossi (202) scored 14 points and 7 rebounds. Quilicura shot 64.2 percent from the field and made 17-of-20 free shots (85.0 percent) during the game. They shot the lights out from three sinking 14 long-distance shots on high 53.8 percentage. Quilicura looked well-organized offensively handing out 24 assists. The former international guard Pablo Coro (190-1990, college: BYU-Hawaii) scored 40 points (!!!) and 5 rebounds to lead the charge for the winners and Facundo Fernandez chipped in 29 points and 5 assists (was perfect 8-for-8 from the free throw line) during the contest. The former international forward Gianncarlo Caraboni responded with 38 points (!!!) and 6 rebounds and guard Felipe Gonzalez Flores (180-1994) scored 33 points (!!!) and 8 assists (perfect from downtown making all six shots !!!). Four Quilicura and five Tinguiririca players scored in double figures. Quilicura have a solid three-game winning streak. They maintain eighth position with 13-10 record. Tinguiririca lost ninth consecutive game. They keep the fourteenth place with 21 games lost. Quilicura will meet at home league's leader Concepcion in the next round and they do not belong to the favorites in that game. Tinguiririca will play against Valdivia (#6) and hope to secure a win.
