SPB Round 15: Broncos are defeated by Brillantes in a derby game

The most exciting game was a derby match between two local teams from Caracas: Brillantes (#4) and Broncos (#2). Brillantes (4-5) won against visiting Broncos (6-4) 77-72. It was a great evening for American guard Hameed Ali (194-1993, college: TAMUCC) who led his team to a victory scoring 16 points, 5 rebounds and 4 assists. Argentinian Lisandro Rasio (198-1990) helped adding 8 points, 9 rebounds and 4 assists. The best for the losing side was international point guard Garly Sojo (196-1999, agency: Pro Sports) with a double-double by scoring 18 points, 10 rebounds and 4 blocks. Both coaches used bench players in such tough game. Brillantes maintains fourth place with 4-5 record. Broncos at the other side keep the second position with four games lost. Brillantes are looking forward to face league's leader Centauros in Margarita in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Broncos will have a break next round.
Very important is a road loss of second ranked Heroes (4-3) against fourth ranked Gaiteros (4-4) on Sunday night. Visiting Heroes were defeated by Gaiteros in Maracaibo 88-74. It ended at the same time the two-game winning streak of Heroes. It was an exceptional evening for American guard Elyjah Clark (190-1998, college: MSSU) who led the winners with a double-double by scoring 18 points, 11 rebounds and 9 assists. Serigne Barro accounted for 23 points and 14 rebounds. American point guard Keron DeShields (190-1992, college: Tennessee St., agency: BIG) came up with a double-double by scoring 21 points, 14 rebounds and 7 assists for Heroes in the defeat. Both coaches tested many bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Gaiteros moved-up to third place. Heroes at the other side keep the second position with three games lost. Gaiteros will again play against league's second-placed Heroes in Caracas in the next round and it will be for sure the game of the week. Heroes will have a break next round.
The game between Top Four teams took place in La Asuncion. 4th placed host Taurinos (1-6) lost to first ranked Gladiadores (8-1) 91-87. The best player for the winners was Michael Carrera who scored 23 points and 8 rebounds. At the other side the best for losing team was Brandone Francis who recorded 31 points, 6 rebounds and 5 assists. Both coaches allowed to play bench players in such tough game. Gladiadores maintains first place with 8-1 record. Taurinos lost sixth consecutive game. They keep the fourth position with six games lost. They share it with Toros. Gladiadores' supporters look forward to an exciting derby game next round, where their team will face at home their local rival from Caracas .

There were no shocking results in the rest of the games of round 15: Gigantes won against Cangrejeros on the opponent's court 95-87. Supersonicos unfortunately lost to Cocodrilos in a home game 66-73. Llaneros lost to undefeated Trotamundos on the road 72-78.
The most impressive stats of the last round was 25 points and 7 assists by David Cubillan of Trotamundos.

Cangrejeros - Gigantes 87-95

Rather expected game in Maturin where 5th ranked Cangrejeros (2-7) were defeated by third ranked Gigantes (4-2) 95-87 on Saturday. The best player for the winners was the former international point guard Harold Cazorla (175-1991, agency: Promo Sport ID) who scored 20 points, 5 rebounds and 6 assists. Swingman Luis Duarte (190-1994) chipped in 16 points and 6 rebounds. Gigantes' coach Manuel Povea used an eleven-player rotation and allowed the starting five to rest.
