Jamaica triumphed in the CBC Championship by winning the Gold medals last night. Jamaica was too good in the first half and kept the score for good over British Virgin Islands to win 65:61. Both teams qualified for Centrobasket.
Tortola waived to all the teams, however will remember the Final game for a long time. After the semifinal thrillers against the opponents where both Jamaica and British Virgin Islands handed the first losses tho the winners of the groups, they met each other in the last game. Jamaica used their strength in the paint and took advantage to dominate 20:10. Led by Samardo Samuels (203-F-89) and Weyinmi Efejuku (196-G-86) the winners produced another 17-11 to take 37:21 at the halftime.
It seemed that the hosts of the CBC Championship had nothing to prepare for the favorites, however British Virgin Islands did not give up. They stayed in the game during the second half by winning the third quarter 19-12 to tighten the game at 49:40. The last period brought more intrigue and interest in the court. British Virgin Islands reduced to the minimum, however Weyinmi Efejuku brought the victory for Jamaica from the free throw line.
Samardo Samuels top-scored for the winners with 17 points, while Weyinmi Efejuku netted 16. Kimani Ffriend (211-C-77, agency: Court Side, college: Nebraska) collected 11 points and 10 rebounds to triumph with the team. Kennedy Bass (196-F, college: Anderson) finished the night with 19 points and Halstead Charles Chiverton had 12.

Game for the third place

Cuba-Trinidad and Tobago 91:77

Cuba and Trinidad and Tobago both deserved a Final game of the CBC Championship in Tortola, however had to battle for the only ticket to Centrobasket. Cuba win Bronze medals and qualified for the 2010 Centrobasket Tournament after 91:77 victory.
Cuba started too strong for the opponents to create 13-2 lead in the beginning of the game. The winners finished the opening quarter with 24:9. In the second quarter Terry Layton's team replied with 9-0 run and outscored Cuba 27-20 to finish the first half trailing, 44:36.
It was back to back action with both teams scoring at either end of the court in the third period. Cuba however played better later in the period that extended their lead to 62:47. Trinidad and Tobago reduced the deficit to 68:76, with 3 minutes remaining. But Cuba showed its supremacy with a strong finish behind Duquense, Gonzalez and Raicel Lavastida (191-G-81) who all shot over 50% from behind the three point range.
Geoffrei Silvestre (202-F/C-79) top-scored for the winners with 22 points and 7 rebounds, while Raicel Lavastida posted 19. Duguense netted 16, whilst Gonzalez, Luis and Elias scored 10 apiece. Ian Young (191-G-81, college: Auburn) ended up with 27 points in defeat and David Georges (191-G-72) and Marlon Pompey (203-F-83, college: Texas A&M) had 14 each.
Cuba and as well as Puerto Rico, US Virgin Islands, British Virgin Islands and Jamaica advanced for the 2010 Centrobasket Tournament. Cuba will now focus for the 2009 FIBA Americas Championship to be played from August 26 to September 6 in San Juan, Puerto Rico. They are in Group B along with Argentina, Brazil, Dominican Republic and Venezuela.

5th place

Bahamas-Barbados 94:87

Bahamas finishes 5th in CBC Championship as the team won another consolation round game in the last day of the tournament. The team won over Barbados 94:87 in Tortola.
Barbados opened the game with 20:17 and became even the winner of the first half. Both teams nailed 27 points each in the very productive second quarter as Barbados had 3 points when the teams went to the lockers. Leading 63:58 at the start of the final period, Barbados had survived an initial eight-point outburst from Bahamian swingman Torrington Cox to hold a slight 74:73 lead early in the quarter. Bahamas never gave up and scored 36 points to come from behind and beat Barbados 94:87 and finish fifth.
Alonzo Hinds (183-G-84, college: Midland CC) paced all the winners with 26 points. Torrington Cox (201-F-85) netted 23, while Hall Quentin Kinte nailed 10. Jeremy Gill (183-G-81) finished the game with 21 points in the losing effort, while Williams Corey posted 18.

7th place

Bermuda-Antigua 45:73

Antigua clinched the 7th place in the CBC Championship after the win over Bermuda in the last day. Antigua won on the consolation round in the CBC Championship played in Tortola.
Even though the difference is enormous both teams started even in the game. Bermuda tried hard, however Antigua took 19:18 after the opening quarter. Bermuda started to lose control in their shooting while Antigua used their advantage on the paint to stay on top and win 35:28. The tempo was high however Antigua kept the necessary advantage. In the third period the winners produced 22-10 to increase to 57:38. The last quarter did not bring too much intrigue as Antigua held off the opponents to 16-7.
Toray Henry led the way with 15 points, while Mario Manasar Davis added 12. Marlon Charles (186-G-76) finished the game with 9 points in a win. Michael Charles Smith delivered 13 points in defeat and Bean Dionn had 9.

CBC, Semifinals: Cuba - Jamaica 93-98 Jamaica outplayed Cuba 98-93 advancing to Big CBC Final. That was very exciting game, decided in over time. Weyinmi Efejuku (196-G-86) (196-G-86) was a key player for Jamaica last night. He was totally unstoppable for the Cubans nailing 32 points. Samardo Samuels (203-F-89) also had very important role netting 18 pts. Kimani Ffriend (211-C-77, agency: Court Side, college: Nebraska) followed them with 14 points. On the other side, Geoffrei Silvestre (202-F/C-79) answered with 20 points and 7 rebounds. Alexis Labastida (187-G-77) had 18 and Yoan Luis Haiti (200-C-82) contributed with 14 pts.
It was a game with lof of turns. First quarter belonged to Cuba, second to Jamaica. After the breather Jamaica jumped to plus 6, but that was not enough for the win, at least in regular time. Geoffrei Silvestre and his teammates drastically improved in the last 10 minutes, but they failed in over time. So for third place Cuba will meet Trinidad and Tobago today.

CBC, Semifinals: Trinidad and Tobago - British Virgin Islands 73-76

British Virgin Islands demonstrated wonderful performance yesterday reaching the CBC Final. Trinidad and Tobado entered to Semifinals as No.1 from Group A, but
they could not handle BVI players. Halstead Chiverton (-82) and Kennedy Bass (196-F, college: Anderson) were the most important players in victory scoring 17
points each. Randy George (200-F-81, college: Henderson St.) followed them with 13. On the other side, Ian Young (191-G-81, college: Auburn) delivered 18 pts and
7 assists in loss. Julius Ashby (205-F/C-82, college: Colorado) had 17 points and 8 boards, while Steven Lewis (193-F) contributed with 12 points. British Virgin Islands will meet Jamaica today in the Big Final. Trinidad and Tobago will meet Cuba in the battle for this place.

CBC, classification game (5-8): Bahamas - Bermuda 100-59

That was an easy win for Bahamas yesterday. It means that Bahamas will meet Barbados today and the winner will grab the fifth place on CBC 2009. On the other
side, Bermuda will take on Antigua trying to avoid the last place. Alonzo Hinds (183-G-84, college: Midland CC) led the scorers in victory with 18 points. Torrington Cox (201-F-85) was behind him with 16 pts and 8 rebounds, while Jeffrey Henfield (193-G-85, college: Tarleton St.) added 14 pts. In Team Bermuda, Dion Bean delivered 15 pts. Michael Smith and Aaron Jackson (193-G-86) contributed with 12 each.

CBC, classification game (5-8): Antigua - Barbados 67-79


Barbados made it against Antigua yesterday and now they are just one win away from the fifth place. Of course it will not be an easy job as Barbados will have to 
beat Bahamas today. On the other side, we have Antigua playing against Bermudas. The winner of that game will end the CBC on seventh place. Jeremy Gill (183-G-81)
 was a key player for Barbados as he drained impressive 29 points. Kelvin Patterson (194-F-77) followed with 18 pts. Wayne Walker 
 (198-F-75, college: Wisc.-Green Bay) had 15 pts and 6 rebounds for Antigua, while Mario Davis (198-F/G-80, college: Missouri Western) also scored 15.
