2010 Centrobasket, Semifinals: DOMINICAN REPUBLIC - CUBA 85-71

Dominican Republic stays unbeaten in Santo Domingo. This time Dominicans outplayed Cuba 85-71 advancing to Centrobasket Finals, where they will take on Puerto Rico. On the other side, Cuba will fight against Panama for third place. Franklin Western (200-F-72, college: Providence) led the way for Dominicans with 16 points. Kelvin Pena (193-G-81, college: Southeastern CC) had 14 points and 6 assists, while Elpidio Fortuna (186-G-85) added 13 points and 5 assists. Elys Guzman (206-F/C-82, college: Bemidji St.) had double-double of 10 points and 11 boards. In the loosing squad, Yoan Luis Haiti (200-C-82) collected 14 points and 5 rebounds. Lisvan Valdez (194-G/F-88) scored 13 pts.
Third quarter was the crucial one in this game. Before that, Dominican Republic made two-point lead in the first half (17-12 Q1, 22-22 Q2). After the breather Dominican totally took control on their rivals. They exploded at the both sides of the court scoring 29 points in offense and at the same time limiting Cuba to just 10 points for 10 minutes. It means that Dominicans were up by 21 with one quarter to go. Cuba won the last ten minutes 17-24, but they needed a way more.
Dominicans will meet powerful Puerto Rico in the Big Final, while Cuba and Panama will play few hours before that game. Both matches are scheduled for Monday.

Nautico KIA Tenerife (EBA) agreed terms with experienced 37-year old Cuban ex-international power forward Georffri Silvestre (202-104kg-79). The last time (12-13) he played at Maubeuge in French NM3 league. The list of the past achievements is quite long as among others Silvestre's team was regular season runner-up in Spanish EBA Group B in 2012. Albacete Basket (EBA) re-signed experienced 35-year old Cuban forward Georvys Elias (199-103kg-81). He played there last season. In 29 EBA games he recorded 9.7ppg, 7.7rpg, 2.0apg and 1.1spg. Elias helped them to win the EBA Final Stage 4 title. The previous (14-15) season he played at Seguros Soliss Alcazar Basket where in 29 EBA games he averaged 12.4ppg, 8.0rpg, 1.6apg and 1.4spg. BC Timisoara tabs Adrian Diaz - 3 months ago

BC Timisoara (Liga Nationala) inked 23-year old American (has also Cuban passport) center Adrian Diaz (211-104kg-93). He just graduated from Florida International University (NCAA). Diaz has played there for the last three years. In 32 games he averaged impressive 15.3ppg, 7.8rpg and 2.9bpg last season.
