Puerto Rico is U17 Centrobasket champion! The Puerto Ricans destroyed Mexico in the Big Final 92-58 finishing the contest undefeated. It means that Puerto Rico won the Gold and the host of this event will have to be satisfied with silver medal. Angel Rodriguez (-94) was totally unstoppable draining 34 points and pulling down 5 rebounds. He made 6 of 11 attempts from behind the arc. Place 3-4Dominican Republic - U.S. Virgin Islands 74-81 U.S. Virgin Islands outplayed Dominican Republic in the battle for third place at the U17 Centrobasket in Mexico. Both squads suffered huge defeats in the Semis by Mexico and Puerto Rico, but it seems that the Dominicans recover faster. Aaron Brown (-92) was totally the best player in the winning squad. He spent 31 minutes on the court draining the same number of points. Rasheed Swanston (-95) and Merwin Potter (-93) also were good delivering 14 pts each. Eddy Guisarri (-94) responded with 28 points in loss.
Place 5-6Bahamas - Guatemala 82-57 Bahamas registered 82-57 victory against Guatemala grabbing the fifth place at the U17 Centrobasket. Position number 6 belongs to Guatemalans. Samuel Johnson (-93) led Bahamas collecting 18 points and 13 rebounds. Lamaal Walker had 14 and Alexander Rolle (-93) added 12 pts, plus 7 assists. The Guatemalans got double-double from Freddy Fernandez (-93), 21 pts and 11 rebs.

Puerto Rico advanced to this stage perfect and yesterday's victory was expected. The Dominicans also demonstrated decent performance in the first stage, but they could not resist against the strong Puerto Ricans. Angel Matias (-93) and Jose Agosto (-93) were the key players in victory combining 36 points and 26 rebounds. Luis Quinones (-93) and Angel Rodriguez (-94) followed them with 15 points each. On the other side, Eddy Guisarri (-94) shined with 23 pts. Ted Jimenez (-93) was the second scorer in loss with 12 pts.

In yesterday's Semifinals the Mexicans were too strong for US Virgin Islands celebrating comfortable 15-point win. Today Mexico will fight for the Gold against also undefeated Puerto Rico. Javier Meza (-93) top-scored in Team Mexico with 18 points. Ernesto Morales (-94) had 16 pts and 7 boards, while Jaime Cruz added 12 pts and 6 rebs. Aaron Brown (-92) drained 21 points and grabbed 5 boards in defeat, while Rasheed Swanston (-95) contributed with 12 pts.
Place 5-7Nicaragua - Guatemala 65-74 Guatemala cruised past Nicaragua 75-64 and it will continue battle for the fifth place at the U17 Centrobasket in Mexico. Today the Guatemalans will take on Bahamas. On the other side, Nicaragua ended the contest winless on the last seventh place. Juan Fernando Calderon (180-G-93) led the winners with 19 points and 8 rebounds. Carlos Cruz (-94) had 15 pts, 7 boards and 6 assists, while Fabio Salazar (-94) added 13 pts. Francisco Cuarezma (-95) responded with 20 points in defeat. Harry Miranda (-94) also was good in this defeat netting 18 pts.

It means that Puerto Rico advanced to Semifinals as No.1 from Group B and they will meet No.2 from Group A - Dominican Republic. The hosts of this event were better than Bahamas and Guatemala in the first two games, and yesterday they defeated Dominican Republic by 20. Naturally, with perfect 3-0 record Mexico advanced to Semifinals as No.1 in Group B. The Dominicans also advanced, but as No.2. Javier Meza (-93) was a key player in victory scoring 24 points. Kevin Acosta (-94) was behind him with 19, while Ernesto Morales (-94) helped with 11. In defeat, Deivy Martinez (-93) netted 16 points. Ted Jimenez (-93) followed with 13.
