On Sunday afternoon the DIGICELLs Ballin-4-Life tournament hosted by the Belize District Basketball Association got underway with three matches in the Senior, Junior and Female Divisions. In the Female Division, Sparks defeated Maria Chang Eagles by a Score of 48 34. Sparks was led by captain Enid Dakers who had a wonderful night with double double figures, 13 pts, 15 rebs, and 3 blocks. In the Junior Division, Ferrari defeated Rising Stars by a score of 70 58. The young men coached by Darwin Leslie (191-F/G-81) and Roscoe Rhys were led by Jaleel Arnolds and London Reneau who both had double double figures; 19 pts, 18 rebs and 15 pts, 13 rebs, respectively, and Steven Williams with 14 pts. In a losing effort, Vince Young scored 18 pts, 8 rebs, and 1 block, Rodwell Neal with 16 pts, 7 rebs and David Rabateau with 10 pts.
In the Senior Division, The Belize Bank Bulldogs bombed the San Pedro Tiger Sharks with a score of 81 66. The Bulldogs out scored the Tiger Sharks except in the third where the Tiger Sharks managed to score the same amount of points as the Bulldogs. The Tiger Sharks seamed a bit rusty missing shots from the charity line and three point shots. The Bulldogs were led by Lennox Bowman (180-G-83) with 20 pts, Darwin Leslie with 19 pts, 13 rebs, Earl Johnson (188-F) with 14 pts and Rupert Brown (170-G) with 11 pts, 1 block. In a losing effort, Lester Cadle (188-G-80) finished with 20 pts, 6 rebs, Sheldon Williams (180-F) with 13 pts, 10 rebs and Douglas Penland (191-G/F-75) with 13 pts.

Winston Pratt (186-G-90) led the Jaguars with 30 pts, Followed by Daniel Nolbert with 19 pts, Stephen Williams (188-G-83) with 13 pts, 1 block and Richard Soto (200-F-68, college: Lafayette) with 12 pts, 6 rebs and 2 blocks. In a losing effort, Greg Rudon (180-G) scored 21 pts, 6 rebs, Alfred Bainton (193-F) 20 pts, 12 rebs, 1 block, Elsworth Itza 13 pts, 12 rebs and Keith Pollard 12 pts, 10 rebs.

The Belize Basketball Federation (BBF) in collaboration with the Belize Association of Basketball Officials (BABO) will be hosting an international certification clinic for basketball officials from March 27-29, 2010. Belize currently has 4 FIBA licensed referees of which three will seek to recertify as international referees. BABO will be hosting two training sessions and a national certification clinic leading up to this international certification clinic [read more]
