The BBA regular season has come to an end and surprisingly the Semi-Pro Champ advanced as the number three seed. The UB Black Jaguars are in as the number one seed after a marvelous season playing good basketball. As they say, stats and records have nothing to do when it comes to the playoffs because we have seen teams coming in as the underdogs and win a competition. So far only one team has shown consistency in this tournament and that is the UB Jaguars. [read more]

So far the closest match will be between the Tiger Sharks and the Bulldogs. Good luck to all teams and to our reader, may you have a safe and happy new year.

Between December 10-14, Belize entered a team of male 12 and Under athletes to play in a Central American Minibasket-ball tournament. The games were hosted by the Guatemalan Basketball Federation and played at the Teodoro Palacios Flores Gymnasium in Guatemala City. The games were played under the Minibasktball rules that encourage all youth to participate and enjoy the sport. In these games there are no declared winners as all teams receive medals. [read more]
Between December 10-14, Belize entered a team of male 12 and Under athletes to play in a Central American Minibasket-ball tournament. The games were hosted by the Guatemalan Basketball Federation and played at the Teodoro Palacios Flores Gymnasium in Guatemala City. The games were played under the Minibasktball rules that encourage all youth to participate and enjoy the sport. In these games there are no declared winners as all teams receive medals. Given that this was Belizes first international exposure for this age group in over 30 years and that the team had just over a month to prepare, Belize made a good showing by winning three out of the five games they played, having the third best record in the tournament. They defeated teams from Guatemala, El Salvador and Costa Rica. The trip was an education for the athletes that participated as it provided exposure to international competition, playing in different climatic conditions, playing away from home, and playing as a national team under international referees. The Belize Basketball Federation (BBF) executives that accompanied the team made contacts with Central American federations and received invitations to participate in other upcoming tournaments for all age groups male and female. The BBF would like to publicly thank all those who sponsored the team by making financial contributions and parents and friends who accompanied and supported the team.
