The draw for the 2009 FIBA Americas U16 Championship for Women was done at the FIBA Americas offices in San Juan, Puerto Rico. The event will be played at Juan de la Barrera Gymnasium in Mexico City, Mexico.

The eight countries were divided into two groups of four teams each. The draw was conducted by FIBA Americas Technical Director, Anibal Garcia.

Group A: Canada, Brazil, Guatemala and Mexico.
Group B: United States, Argentina, Dominican Republic and Puerto Rico.

Schedule:
Monday, August 10:

Brazil vs.Canada
Puerto Rico vs. Argentina
USA vs. Dominican Rep
Guatemala vs. Mexico

Tuesday, August 11:
Mexico vs. Brazil
Dominican Rep vs. Argentina
Canada vs. Guatemala
Puerto Rico vs. USA

Wednesday, August 12:
Guatemala vs. Brazil
Argentina vs. USA
Dominican Rep vs. Puerto Rico Mexico vs. Canada

Thursday, August 13:

The Draw held in San Juan - May 16, 2013

The draw for the Fiba Americas U16 Championship was held in San Juan, Puerto Rico. The tournament is scheduled to take place from June 19th to 23rd in Cancun, Mexico. Eight teams were drawn into two preliminary round groups. The tournament will serve as the qualifying round for U17 World Championship. USA wins the Gold - Jun 19, 2011

FINAL USA - Brazil 73-40 USA won the Gold at the U16 FIBA Americas championship in Merida. They dominated during the entire event and finally blasted Brazil 73-40 for the Gold. The Silver belongs to Brazil of course. It is important to mention that both teams booked a place for the next U17 World Championships. Semifinals Canada - Brazil 35-56 Brazil advanced to Big Final of the U16 FIBA Americas Championship. They blasted Canada in the Semis 56-35. In the other Semifinals, USA was too strong for Puerto Rico, so USA and Brazil will fight for the Gold today. Izabella Frederico (95) was the leading player in Brazil with 19 points and 9 rebounds.
