Penarol Mar del Plata won their second FIBA Americas League by beating Halcones UV Xalapa 93-91 in overtime.
In the win Kyle Lamonte (191-G-84, agency: KMG Sports Management, college: William Carey) had 39 points with 7 rebounds to lead the Argentineans. Pablo Sebastian Rodriguez (188-G-78) had 15 points and Martin Leiva 12, 10 of them in the first half.

This is the second championship for Pearol after winning the first in Mexicali during the 2007/2008 edition. In their history they have two FIBA Americas League titles and only one in the Argentinean National League (1993/1994).
'We deserved the title because everything that we have done in the tournament. Halcones was a tough opponent that never gave up. Thank God that we could save the game. (Kyle) La Monte had a great game and gave us the championship, it was incredible what he gave us,' said Leo Gutirrez.
The game started being dominated by Pearol after a brilliant performance by Martin Leiva inside. The first ten minutes ended 20-15 in favor of Pearol where Leiva had 8 points. Gerald Brown (193-G-75, college: Pepperdine) came from the bench and netted 7 for Halcones.
Halcones came close in the second quarter led by Brown but Pearol stayed on top led by Leo Gutirrez. The first half ended 44-35 in favor of Pearol as Leiva had 10, Leo Gutierrez and Sebastian Rodriguez 8 points each. Gerland Brown had 11 and Lenadro Garcia Morales 8 for Halcones.
The defense of Halcones left Gutierrez without scoring in the second half and an 8-0 run placed them down 48-47. Halcones took a 54-50 lead but Pearol came back and a three pointer by Marcos Mata left the hosts up 55-54.
In the final quarter Kyle Lamonte came to save Pearol, scoring 19 points, but his effort was not enough for to keep Halcones away. Victor Mariscal and Halcones left regulation tied at 83. The Mexicans ended the fourth quarter with a 10-3 run.
La Monte netted 7 points in overtime and this time was enough to get the win.
Penarol - Quimsa 87-58
Penarol made another step towards Liga Americas crown. They coasted past Quimsa for the second straight win at the Final Four stage of the tournament. Pablo Sebastian Rodriguez (188-G-78) and Kyle Lamonte (191-G-84, agency: KMG Sports Management, college: William Carey) scored 19 points apiece to lead the charge. Penarol - Quimsa 87-58 Penarol made another step towards Liga Americas crown. They coasted past Quimsa for the second straight win at the Final Four stage of the tournament. Pablo Sebastian Rodriguez (188-G-78) and Kyle Lamonte (191-G-84, agency: KMG Sports Management, college: William Carey) scored 19 points apiece to lead the charge. Penarol will face the Mexican powerhouse Halcones Xalapa later tonight for the trophy. Penarol simply overwhelmed their opponents in this one. They led from start to finish. Penarol earned a 19:5 lead early in the encounter. Quimsa capped the term with five points in a row to sooth the pain. But Penarol just mounted the pressure as they ensured a 44:25 advantage at the interval. Penarol easily kept their counterparts at bay throughout the third stanza. The scoreboard read 69:39 with ten minutes to go. Quimsa could not recover in the final term and had to surrender at the end. Leonardo Gutierrez finished with 11 points for the winners. Julio Mazzaro (190-G-79) was the only Quimsa player to deliver in double digits as he knocked down 18 points. Jose Muruaga nailed 8 points in the loss.
Espartanos - Halc.Xalapa 78-82 Halcones Xalapa remained in the race for the Liga Americas crown. They defeated Espartanos on the second day of Final Four action to improve at 1-1 record. Halcones will finish the tournament against hosting Penarol who are enjoying 2-0 record. Espartanos in the meantime slipped at 0-2 record. Halcones and Espartanos stayed close in the opening frame. Leandro Garcia Morales (186-G-80, agency: Interperformances, college: Texas A&M) knocked down 9 points in the quarter to help the Mexican team led by one 19:18. Espartanos however raced in front in the second period taking a 44:42 lead at halftime. The third quarter brought no relief for Halcones Xalapa. The Venezuelan team stayed in control as they entered the fourth quarter ahead by 3 points. But Halcones managed to avoid the loss. Jack Michael Martinez and Noe Alonzo triggered an 8:2 run late in regulation to propel the Mexican champions to the victory. Leandro Garcia Morales finished with 25 points, 6 steals, 5 assists and 4 boards for Halcones. Jack Michael Martinez contributed 15 points and 10 rebounds in the victory. Hector Romero (202-F-80, college: New Orleans) responded with 22 points and 12 boards for Espartanos. Rafael Guevara delivered 15 points in defeat.
Halc.Xalapa - Quimsa 99-101
Quimsa clinched the first win at the Liga Americas Final Four. They narrowly defeated Halcones Xalapa in Mar Del Plata. Quimsa came from behind in the final minutes of the encounter and stole a valuable victory at the end. Roman Gonzalez (211-C-78) finished with game-high 37 points for the Argentinean team. Halc.Xalapa - Quimsa 99-101 Quimsa clinched the first win at the Liga Americas Final Four. They narrowly defeated Halcones Xalapa in Mar Del Plata. Quimsa came from behind in the final minutes of the encounter and stole a valuable victory at the end. Roman Gonzalez (211-C-78) finished with game-high 37 points for the Argentinean team. Quimsa got to the better start as they enjoyed an 8-point buffer midway through the opening frame. Halcones got closer but still trailed by three points 27:30 at the first intermission. Halcones denied the deficit in the second frame as the sides were knotted up at 46 after twenty minutes. The third frame brought no change to this intense battle. Quimsa and Halcones traded baskets and entered the fourth frame tied at 70. Leandro Garcia Morales helped the Mexican side to take a 7-point lead midway through the fourth quarter but Quimsa did not say die. Albert White (197-G/F-77, agency: Paris Global Sports, college: Missouri) and Roman Gonzalez organized a rescue rally that put Quimsa in charge and they maintained the lead till the final buzzer. Albert White produced 20 points for Quimsa. Julio Mazzaro added 17 points for the winners. Orlando Mendez-Valdez responded with 29 points for Halcones. Leandro Garcia Morales had 28 points in defeat.
Penarol - Espartanos 92-73 Penarol eased past Espartanos for the initial victory in Liga Americas Final Four. Leonardo Gutierrez (200-F-78) scored 20 points to lead the charge. Penarol will next take on Quimsa, while Espartanos will try to bounce back against Halcones Xalapa. Penarol got to a sizzling start of the encounter. They poured in 32 points in the first quarter taking a 15-point advantage. Espartanos however responded with a 12:2 run in the second period and gained control. The Venezuelan team trimmed the deficit at 9 points twenty minutes into the clash. The teams traded baskets eagerly in the third frame. Penarol maintained the gap and headed into the fourth stanza up by as many as 11 points. The Argentinean team went on an 8:1 run in the fourth quarter and secured the winning outcome at the end. Martin Leiva (208-F/C-80) finished with 17 points for Penarol. Pablo Sebastian Rodriguez had 11 points and 8 assists for the winners. Kevin Freeman responded with 16 points for Espartanos. Hector Romero delivered 15 points in defeat.
