The elite tournment of Paraguay, named this year, 'Top 5 Pro' is scheduled to start on March 25. Together with usual powerhoses Sol de America and Libertad there will be again Felix Perez Cardozo and Deportivo San Jose, plus the real novelty of this season, i.e. the addition of Olimpia, an historic club that is investing lot of money to build a strong team. To give an idea, the Olimpia officials are negotiating with top players as Gustavo Torres (175-G-80), Victor Brizuela (195-F-76), Adrian Tovar (200-C-77), Rodrigo Franco (G-89) and last season MVP Bruno Zanotti (197-F-82, college: Merrimack). Sol de America is talking with Aldo Acosta (192-F-76), Carlos Luis Vallejos (183-G-92) and Renzo Ferrari (191-G/F-84). San Jose has yet confirmed Federico Mellone (190-G/F-85), Carlos Jorge Riveros (190-G-85), Hugo Paredes (198-F-84) and is negotiating with Hector Vairoletto (188-F-87). Reigning champions of Libertad, instead, agreed to terms with Gustavo Paniagua (186-G-80). The league will be officially introduced to media on Tuesday, March 16, at the Paparazzi Restaurant, Mcal. Lopez Shopping. At the end of the month will start also the 2010 edition of Metropolitan League, that will feature 6 teams, as follows: Deportivo Sajonia, Universidad Catolica, Ciudad Nueva, Universidad Autonoma Asuncion, Sportivo San Lorenzo and Cerro Porteno.

After easily winnning Game 1 of Final Series, the 'reds' of 1 de Mayo defeated two other times Capitan Bado, for the final 3-0 in the aggregate result, becoming the 2010 Liga de Pilar Champions. The starting five of the 'reds' was made of Gustavo Torres (175-G-80), Eulalio Ramoa (175-G-74), Federico Mellone (190-G/F-85), Richard Ozuna (185-G/F-82) and Guillermo Araujo (204-C-82). [read more]

1 de Mayo took Game 1 of Pilar League Final Series by defeating Capitan Bado 104-87 on sunday night. Gustavo Torres (175-G-80) scored 24 points to pace the winner team, Guillermo Araujo (204-C-82) added 22 pts and Eulalio Ramoa (175-G-74) 20. The game top scorer was, however, Carlos Jorge Riveros (190-G-85), who ended the game with 37 points for Capitan Bado. Game 2 will be played tonight. [read more]
